MTT hand question - final table
40 person MTT, NLHE
5 players remaining Blinds 400/800 (50 ante) SB - 25K BB - 23K UTG (me) - 8500 UTG+1 - 30K UTG+2 - 9000 dealt pockets 10's and raise to 2500 UTG UTG+1 folds UTG+2 moves all in Both bilnds fold Read - solid player, not overly tight. I had been catching hands alot and had been raising a lot of pots, he pushed back at me a few hands earlier by moving in with A5 off and he was a smaller stack, I called and subsequently doubled him up. I figured that he had a hand, but it could very well be a smaller pair or over cards. For some reason the situation perplexed me seeing we were already in the money and we were both short stacked. So, what would you have done and why? |

Re: MTT hand question - final table
You're dealt TT two off the button. Before you act, what is the probability that someone else is holding a bigger pocket pair?

Re: MTT hand question - final table
Easy call. You're 5 handed and dealt a big pair. Folding here would be a big mistake getting about 2-1. I think his range includes any pocket pair, AJ-AK, ATs, KJ-KQ which you are much better than 2-1.

Re: MTT hand question - final table
Each of the 4 remaining players has a 1 in 56 chance of holding a pair bigger than mine at the time. Based on the reads I have at the time, neither of the blinds are going to call. And UTG+1 is already mucking his cards as I go for chips.

you don't think he's moving in with 99 or 88? this is an easy call.

[ QUOTE ]
Each of the 4 remaining players has a 1 in 56 chance of holding a pair bigger than mine at the time. [/ QUOTE ] Actually it's 1 in 51 (not 56) because your two tens have been removed from the deck. The probability that at least one of those 4 players has a bigger pocket pair is 7.6% (without accounting for the telegraphs you picked up). Because this probability is so small, you should have pushed initially instead of raising to 2500. That way, overcard hands like AJ and so forth will fold rather than being tempted to play back at you. |
