Adding hands - k8s from the SB
I constantly see some of the very top players making plays like this and I never make them (my fold sb to a steal is like 85%), so there must be some EV to squeeze out here and I want my cut.
Folded to the button who raises (he's a standard mediocre 30/10/.84 weak player), I cold call k8s in the sb, a world class player in the bb folds (maybe now that I think about it that should sway it to a fold, but if it's another weak player in the bb, a call?) HU to the flop of AK3r I check call turn 5 I check call river 7 check check, mhig. /edit I just wanted to make a note - if the button was somebody who I felt opened too many hands, this is an easy 3 bet, and maybe that would be the right play here too, but I'm experimenting. thoughts? |

Re: Adding hands - k8s from the SB
i would say most people under-rate K8s about as much as they over-rate QTo.

I assume you are folding for a river bet from this particular opponent?

How does your plan change if it's a WCP on the button and a mediocre-fish-type in the BB?

Re: Adding hands - k8s from the SB
I hate playing hands vs world class out of position, so I'd be more tempted to fold...and I think i would with that player in the bb. Make him a bigger fish and I'm calling.

Did you consider betting the river?

Re: Adding hands - k8s from the SB
The preflop call is much better if the player in the BB is weak/fishy and likely to come alone for 2 bets. Then hands like Q9s, J9s and a few other high/medium suited gap hands could be played for profit. The strong player in the BB is not someone you want coming along for the ride. Therefore folding these hands is a decent option in this instance. With a strong player in the BB, I like folding or reraising better than calling.
Also, the blind structure should have a little impact on your decision-making. PokerPrince |
