Default Vegas trip planning help needed!!

okay, so I need to get to Vegas (downtown) by Tuesday and am staying until Saturday. I want to stay some place cheap but not where I have to be looking over my shoulder. Decent is good. I also need to book a flight but the cheapest I can find is around $220 leaving Long Beach, CA. I can leave from LAX or John Wayne but I figure Long Beach got the cheapest flights. Anyhow, please help if you can. Expedia seems to be finding hotels on the Strip but not downtown.

Again, what I need:
Tuesday - Saturday trip to downtown LV. Need decent hotel room. Cheap flight.

Websites or links you can direct me to?

Thanks

Call the Horseshoe and see if they have a Poker room rate.

I go about three times per year and always stay downtown. I have stayed in the Plaza, Las Vegas Club, Binions Horseshoe, 4 Queens, Fitzgerald, Main Street Station, Freemont as well as the Golden Nugget.

The best place downtown is the Golden Nugget.

However, there is nothing wrong with the others I have listed as long as you are looking for a clean room and a place to lay your head.

I do not go to Vegas to stay in the room, so this suits me fine and I stay at whichever one is available.

They are all close together and (other than the Golden Nugget) are similar in price and ambiance.
