Turn raise, or keep calling?
Just started bonus clearing on Empire, this is my 3rd hand at the table with unknowns.
Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (10 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is CO with T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. 3 folds, MP1 calls, 2 folds, Hero raises, 1 fold, SB 3-bets, BB calls, MP1 folds, Hero calls. Whoops, 3-bet out of the SB looks like I'm in trouble now. Flop: (10 SB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players) SB bets, BB calls, Hero calls. OK, not a bad flop. I can continue with this. Turn: (6.50 BB) A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (3 players) SB bets, BB calls, Hero calls. Thinking about the raise to see if I'm up against an overpair or if I'm outkicked. The advantage is information, and collecting more money from BB should I be up against JJ-KK. The disadvantage is folding out SB and BB if I'm ahead and missing out on river bets. Also getting 3-bet would suck. River: (9.50 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players) SB bets, BB calls, Hero raises, SB calls, BB folds. I guess this is obvious. Final Pot: 14.50 BB |

I like this line, even with a different river.

Re: Turn raise, or keep calling?
I would just call this turn as well. A lot of opponents won't three-bet even if you're outkicked, so I don't know that there's really much information to be gained here.

[/ QUOTE ] It's not by any means "wrong," but with BB calling along I think you are ahead probably 1/3 of the time here on the river. I think that most players won't 3-bet non-pp hands from the SB (even SH in the micros). I could be wrong here as well. What do others think of raising a non-scary river (like a Q or a 3 or something)? |

Re: Turn raise, or keep calling?
I have to admit that I just call a non-scary river if I miss my gutshot. Maybe that's weak, but all I have is TPGK against a guy who has bet every street and an overcaller. That's obviously too good a hand to fold, but I don't like my chances enough to raise.

Re: Turn raise, or keep calling?
[grunching]
pre-flop: Looks good - likely the best hand and trying to buy the button. Sucks about the 3-bet but definitely a call when it comes back. flop: 4 outs for the GSD and maybe 1.5 for the A. (I don't even give a T any outs even though it's an overcard.) Against passive opponents, we could raise here for a free card, but that's not likely to happen with SB being so aggressive. Call and reassess the turn. turn: I don't like to use the turn to raise to see what I'm up against, especially with TP decent kicker. And even moreso because I'd be unable to release it if 3-bet by an unknown. river: Yes - obvious. |
