Hiding Hole Cards
(Obviously a beginner question!)
I'm thinkin that some players might be able to see my hole cards live (I don't play online yet). Mainly the ones right beside me. I was never really shown the best way to do it, but it seems that my bluff raises get called fairly often by the people immediately on my left. Maybe coincidence, but I don't care. I don't even want to think about this possibility any more. What's the best way of hiding your hole cards? |

Re: Hiding Hole Cards
Cup your hands over both cards and just lift the corners with your thumb or finger. Just peek in under your hands.

do it like the pros!
this is one very rare example where one can learn something from TV poker. watch how they check their cards, and do it like that, just not quite so preposessingly- you're not on TV.

Re: Hiding Hole Cards
are you lifting the entire cards up to look at them? almost all B&M cardrooms use plastic decks so you only have to lift up a tiny bit while keeping the rest of the card flat down. just flip up about half an inch of the corner and then let it slap back to the felt. you can't do this with Bee or Bicycle but you shouldn't be playing real money poker with those brands anyway.

Re: Hiding Hole Cards
Confession time: If I catch the people on my left or right lifting their cards too high, I always cop a peek.
Ok that felt better. Back to business. |

Re: Hiding Hole Cards
maybe you're getting called a lot b/c B&M's are full of passive players.
that being said, all the advice above is fine. just remember that you're often playing against chumps that'll call with anything. |

Re: Hiding Hole Cards
Hell yeah. I was at the mirage one night (first time there) and the guy to my right was showing me his hand everytime. Not intentionally just ignorantly. Finally after he caught the turn and raised, I folded but I was like "I bet you a red that you had blah blah." He wasn't gonna show, but after he got egged on a little he showed and everyone was like you can read people that well, I was like no!!! I saw them. Haha.
