Minding manners
Hey, I was wondering what kind of manners and formalities were "understood" at casino or club type games. I've really only played home games and don't know what needs to be done as far as manners and what not go when it comes to buying in, posting, table talk and the like. If anyone has some general manners or guidelines, please, feel free.

Re: Minding manners
If you have enough sense to ask the question, you'll be better behaved than 90% of the people there.

Re: Minding manners
This has been covered ad nauseum here.... do a search for more detailed info.
however: • There will be a list, get on it when you arrive. • Buy in at the front counter. Get enough chips (people who rebuy for $30 every 10 mins are annoying). • Pay attention and post your blinds without the dealer having to ask • Don't show your cards unless you have to (called). Some folks fold their cards face-up mid hand... that's an [censored] thing to do. • Don't tap the glass - If someone's playing poorly, don't criticize their play. It will tighten up the table and maybe make a money maker leave • Cash on the table plays in most cardrooms • Dont' talk on your cellphone at the table. If you must talk, fold and get up for a moment. • You can leave your chips safely (in most rooms) for a bit if you want to talk around or go get some food. But I'd advise you keep it under an hour. • Do enjoy yourself.... enjoy the table talk...have a good time |

Re: Minding manners
Since the topic is what is polite rather than what you can get away with, I would suggest that leaving your chips on the table reserving your spot for more than fifteen minutes is rude.

[/ QUOTE ] That's cardroom dependent. In many places it's fine to leave for an hour or more. It IS considerate to tell the dealer that you're going to eat so they can have someone play over your chips if they do that in that particular room. |

Re: Minding manners
I agree. I've personally never left the table for more than a hand or two (for a bathroom break or to go grab a hot dog in the room). However, many people DO leave. If the room is very busy with crazy long waits, then I'd tell the dealer to allow a play-over. If the wait is short and you're not at a goldmine of a table, just cash out and then get reseated when you get back

Re: Minding manners
Like I said, if I'm going to eat or something, I tell the dealer and ask how long before they pick up my chips. If the other players want a play-over, they can ask for it.

Re: Minding manners
Thanks a lot for the info. Sorry to be the end of a long line of posters on the topic, but I'm relatively new to the forum and have never seen any discussion of it.
I think this is some real good advice and I will be sure to keep it in mind when playing in a more formal setting. Keep in mind, I am a big time rookie when it comes to more formal gambling...when buying in, is that done at the table or at another location. Also, what about stradling the big blind, is that a respectable thing to do, or just annoying? (personally, I find it to be just annoying) |

Re: Minding manners
DO NOT talk about your hand if you have folded. DO NOT talk about what the board makes possible.
