Default Tournament Tie-Breaker Rules

Are there any generally accepted tie-breaking rules to determine the order of finish for two or more players who are simultaneously emiminated in tournamnet play? I know that the first tie-breaking rule is to award the eliminated player who had the greatest amount of chips to begin the hand the higher finish, but in the rare situation that the players had equal chips to begin their last last, how is the final order determined?

Add total winnings - divide by number of people tied.
