.10/.20 Superior, no reads (very first hand)
PreFlop: BB (Hero) dealt 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 players limp, BB (Hero) checks Flop: (9 sb) K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (9 players) SB checks, BB (Hero) ?? Do you bet your open-end straight draw into a large field despite the flop being two suited? |

I like a bet here, from the table limp it looks like you'll get enough money in to make it good.

Your straight comes in over 30% of the time. Vs that many opponents you make money on every bet that goes in. So bet unless you are sure it will get raised right behind you. You don't particularly want everyone to have to cold call since your draw is your only chance to win the hand.

To me this seems a little fishy. with 1/4 of your outs making the board three flush arn't you almost helping the flush draws and pumping a huge pot for when they hit. I understand the idea of betting to maximize your profit when you hit, but it just doesnt seem as wise to me with the possible flush draw out there. Please let me know if I am way off as I'm just getting used to the swith from NL to Limit. Thanks

[/ QUOTE ] Even if your diamond outs aren't good, the pot's big enough to call a couple bets on the flop, so why not bet out? It builds a pot for the times you hit. There's nothing you can do to make someone chasing a flush incorrectly call on the flop, the pot's too big. |

IMO one of three things happens:
You bet and flush draws (correctly) stick around You check and give a flush draw infinite odds to make his flush You check, a flush draw bets for value and you correctly call If you are going to check and call, just bet IMO. |

i'd check and see what kinda action there is, you have 6 clean outs, and if you hit them on the turn which is about 14% you still have about 18% chance of a 3 flush on the river, and you might expect to win much less than half the times a 3 flush comes with 8 people still in the hand. Just my 2 cents

there are only 10 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] left in the deck, 1has to hit for the flush to be possible, meaning one of the 8opponents needs 2 of the 9remaining [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] you will be sunk on running [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] most of the time
but assuming the 4flush is always out there is premature at best |

Thanks for your replies. Here's how it turned out.
.10/.20 Superior, no reads (very first hand) PreFlop: BB (Hero) dealt 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 players limp, BB (Hero) checks Flop: (9 sb) K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (9 players) BB (Hero) bets, UTG calls, LP calls, CO calls, BT raises, BB/UTG/LP/CO call Turn: (9.5 bb) K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 players) check to BT, BT bets, BB (Hero) calls, UTG calls, LP folds, CO calls River: (13.5 bb) K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players) BB (Hero) bets, UTG folds, CO raises, BT calls, BB (Hero) reraises, CO caps, BT calls, BB (Hero) calls Showdown: 25.5 bb, 3 players BB (Hero): 9-high straight -- wins $4.90 ($3.60 profit, $0.20 rake) CO: 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] -- set of sixes BT: K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] -- two pair My guess is UTG was on a flush draw since he went to the river and folded. Hitting the straight while a flush draw was present was very profitable here. I think that's in part because no one saw the straight. |
