Point system for starting hands
Fairly new to O/8, I have heard that their is a point system on a website to help determine starting hand requirements.
Anyone have a link to it? |

Re: Point system for starting hands
NP, I have found the the 20 point hands are a little too loose, and I like to start around 22 points.

Re: Point system for starting hands
My two cents about the Hutchinson point system: I consider it the equivalent of "training wheels" when you learn to ride a bike. It's not perfect by any means, but I found that it can give you a good idea of what is a good hand AND especially what is not a good hand in Omaha/8.
I dealt out 4 card hands to myself, thought about how good the hand was preflop (fold, call, raise, jam?) and then used the point system. Do this for a while and you'll get a sense of some of the hands which are weaker than they look. I don't strictly use the point system when playing, but feel it helped me "internalize" good standards for preflop selection. Another flaw of the point system is that it can't effectively take into consideration factors like position or how loose-tight or passive-aggressive your opponents are. |

Re: Point system for starting hands
Good post Tom,
The system is aimed at loose games. I especially like how tight the high hand criteria is. |
