Default Question about selecting a monitor

I've got about $3200 in bankroll along with my regualr job which I make anywhere from 500-1000 per month. I have been thinking of getting a new monitor for my computer in part so I can 4 table without the overlap and so my eyes don't explode. My monitor is very very old.
I've seen almost every mention of the Dell 2001fp and more epensive and larger models.
Is that really the only option for upgrading?
The Dell is selling for $599 right now and it looks great but just not sure if I want to blow$600 bucks on a monitor when my computer only cost that much(i had it made...its loaded).
Anyone else ever decide not to splurge on the Dell LCD and went with something else that worked out ok and wasn't as expensive?
Again only want it for no overlap and less eyestrain...

If you have the space and a desk that can support about 100 pounds get a Dell 21 inch trinitron.

These can be found used for about 200$ maybe cheaper. Same resolution.

If your desk is big enough and you don't plan on moving your monitor often I think a CRT is just as good, if not better of an option. I have a 2001 FP right now, and it definately took some adjusting to get used to 60hz when I was running at 85hz on my old monitor (less hz = harder on eyes).

Viewsonic makes some very good monitors, and generally a 19" CRT capable of displaying 1600x1200 will run you around $200-250.

Search around www.newegg.com for 19" CRTs capable of displaying 1600x1200 at 75+ Hz, I'm sure your local bestbuy has some too. Here's a link to a viewsonic that's $218. Newegg is extremely reliable/cheap, provides great customer service, and is very prompt with preparing your order and shipping it to you on time. Happy hunting.

I was gonna keep quiet, but I can't. I use a 3 moniter setup, and I have a veiwsonic 19" crt next to 2 dell 2001fp's. There is a HUGE diference in resolution of fine text (i.e. all those pesky player chip balances they make so small) Yes, the viewsonic will work fine, i used 2 myself for a year, but side by side where you can move a table or the lobby half on each moniter, the difference it pretty big. I'm actually looking for what deals are out there to get a 3rd dell right now (that's how I stumbled on this thread)

I got a KDS XF-9b 19" Flat Screen CRT Monitor capable of 1600x1200 @ 75Hz, for $67 (after online rebates), spanking new with free shipping three months ago. Just do a google search with model number and you'll find the monitor at a very cheap price. The only con would be that it weights a ton and it's huge.

I just bought a used Sony multiscan E540($230). On my computer its max res is 2048x1536. According to sony the max res is 1920X1440. Anyways I can fit 9 tables on the screen at its max res. There is some overlapp but my cards, my opponets cards, and the control buttons are always visable.

Check out the your local used computer stores.

Stu

p.s. those 21" crts are heavy SOBs. I have two. I had to use some 2x4s to strenghthen the table there sitting on.

The price isn't quite as nice as the $67 mentioned above, but Office Max and Fry's Electronics here in Phoenix have had 19" CRT's with 1600x1200 max res for about $100 (after $50 rebate) lately. I love mine, but then, I'm sure I'd love fp2001 even more
