Harrahs New Orleans
Will be in the Big Easy next weekend for a bachelor party. Can anyone give me a review of the Harrahs poker room?
I play 15-30 and 20-40 limit live here in Tampa. How are the games there on Saturday afternoons? As far as limit, what is spread? Do they spread a NL cash game, buy-in? blinds? Any satellites running for the WSOP event in late May? Thanks for any help with best times to play, softness of games, etc... |

Re: Harrahs New Orleans
On Saturday you should easily be able to find games from 3-6 to 10-20 and NL. Usually a 5/10 PL Omaha too. The NL game is 5/5 with no max buyin. With good table selection you should be able to find some drunk tourist for easy pickings. GL.

Re: Harrahs New Orleans
I'll be there next weekend, as well (specifically sunday). From what I've heard, it's really soft, just like all B&M games. Too bad I have a major compunction about taking a bunch of money out of neteller, so I'll only really have enough cash to play 6/12. Oh well.

How does the 5/5 NL game work? Is that 5 SB and BB?

Just curious because my bankroll is not big enough yet for 3-6. Greg |

Re: Harrahs New Orleans
I've been in New Orleans for 2 weeks now and up until this weekend, I've played at the Harrah's on all but 3 days and I spent Saturday in Biloxi, so that doesn't count. I don't have enough cash with me to be playing the 10/20, so I've been playing the 6/12, which is ridiculously ridiculous. The play is terrible. Seeing the people who play 6/12 while they're waiting for a 10/20, I don't imagine the 10/20 is much tougher. I really wish I had more cash with me so I could play the 10/20. I believe they also spread a 15/30 and a 20/40, but that's hit and miss whether it's going or not. I don't really pay attention to NL, but I know the game gets pretty big sometimes. I think it's 5/5 with no cap on the buy-in.
As for the room in general, I'm actually not a huge fan. The drop is $5 plus $1 for the jackpot. The games are slow because for whatever reason, an unusually large number of the players think they're playing the final table of the WPT and spend about 2 minutes pondering whether or not to call a single bet on the river in a huge pot in a small-stakes limit hold'em game. I don't know - maybe it's just that I'm in the south - people seem to do everything a little slower down here. The dealers in general also contribute to the problem. With about 4 exceptions, they're all very slow. They have automatic shufflers in all the tables, but even with this, I wouldn't be surprised if I've been seeing about 20-25 hands per hour with several of the dealers. I can't imagine what it'd be like if they had to shuffle themselves. I've never been so streaky at any casino until I got to Harrah's N.O. People seriously play worse than I've ever seen even at a 2/4 (live 2/4, not online 2/4). At 6/12, there'll be at least 3 or 4 people who will actually say "Hey, you haven't played a hand in an hour and now you're raising UTG! I call (with my Q3o)." Many don't understand that you bet $6 on the first two rounds and $12 on the last two rounds of betting. It all depends on how lucky the Q3o players are and whether you catch your draws or not. If you're interested in trying to get into the WSOP Circuit event in May, they run $100+$15 satellites to the sunday $1000 super-satellites as often as they can get 10 people to play them. Also, if you don't win the satellite but place 2nd or 3rd, you get a free entry into another satellite to try again. Oh - they also have a couple Omaha games, a 1-4-8-8 Hold'em/Omaha half & half game, and a 1-5 stud game. |

Im going to be there at the end of May. [/ QUOTE ] The end of May could be a real zoo there as they are running their WSOP-curcuit tournament at that time. The main event is a $10k buy-in....the events leading up to it are $500 and $1k buy-ins I believe. My guess is that they will have some longer than usual wait-lists for the low-stakes games (10/20 and smaller). Also - for the satellites to the main-event I suspect it would not be the slowest blind-structure in the world. Just a guess though. I do actually like the room there for some reason. Patrick reported a $5 rake. I remember it as a $4 rake but I haven't been there in quite awhile. GF and I are likely going to the jazz-fest from Apr 29-May2 or so but I doubt I'll get any poker in while I'm there (but anything is possible). Wouldn't mind trying to get there for the WSOP-circuit event at the end of May though. My limited experience there is that the tourists/conventioners/vacationers combine to make the games RIDICULOUSLY soft. But a $5 rake (with JP drop) REALLY does suck. |
