Default NCAA basketball: Would you rather.....

Get crushed in the first round of the Big Dance, or win the NIT?

Teh Dance!

Think about what it's like to tell people you won the NIT...

"Yeah, we won the NIT."
"What's the NIT?"
"It's the tournament for all the second best teams who couldn't make it into the real one"
"Oh."

Plus getting a tourney win to get a bid to the dance or a big upset late in the season (what happens to teams choosing 1st in the NIT/ 15 or 16 seed) is much better than the NIT route.

Win NIT. The current selection format for the 65 teams is set up to NOT pick the 65 best teams in the country. Sure this makes for some exciting Cindrella stuff, but most of the time (all 84 times a 1 seed has played a 16 seed, for example) the teams not worthy of being there get crushed.

At least the good teams in the NIT get a chance to play a few more games and isn't that what it's all about, playing the game we all love?

Cheers,

Swede

Is it weird that I knew exactly what you were going to ask before I opened the thread?

First round of NCAA. No one gives a [censored] about the NIT. Then again, my team didn't even make the NIT so at this rate that would be AWESOME.

Win the NIT. It means that you're in a tough conference and still were able to do nasty in a large tourney.

And my team lost in the first round. I would have rather they win the NIT. They could have pwned in the NIT.

Remeber that teams good enough to win the NIT are not going to be random 15 or 16 seeds in the big dance. They would be the "last teams out" which is generally a 12 seed or so. So I'd rather be a 12 seed and take a shot at the NCAA than be stuck in the NIT.

However, winning the NIT is better than getting crushed in the NCAA first round.
