Ax steal
last night's 100+9 on party. down to 13. i have 21k, blinds are 1.5k/3k, no antes. average is 41k.
13-11 pay 450, 8th pays 1k, 1st pays 13k. i should have a fairly tight image. while i've been at the table (which has been since we were at 20), i've played only 3 pots (second fewest at the table), and only one was an open-raise. players in front of me all cover me, and seem generally reasonable. table is 7-handed. folded to me in utg+1. i have Ax. how big is x before you push? |

Re: Ax steal
With a tight image, 7-handed with 7XBB left, i would open push as low as a8o. With the payout structure as specified I would also consider a7s. I would really like to see the math on this if someone can do it?

Re: Ax steal
ATo and A9s would be my thoughts. I figure why risk it UTG or UTG+1 when you will have position soon and could steal the blinds. I would not want to try a steal from here with too marginal of a hand when you are covered by everyone and you are risking it all with 5 people left to act.

Re: Ax steal
You have 7xBB at 5 players to act after you. I would push with A2s and maybe A8o. Ax is a bad hand to push into a bunch of players with, because you are likely to be dominated if called. I would rather push with any pair, face cards, or a lot of suited conenctors or gappers. I am pretty aggressive pushing at this stage, because it's usually EV+ with the pot odds and folding equity. Also, if you get lucky a couple of times, you can win one of the top prizes.

Re: Ax steal
AJ - you can use your table image in better position with way worse cards.

Re: Ax steal
Q9 in CO is probabably a fold. I would push with Q9s and maybe with Q9o on the button. It's hard to say what ace it's an equivalent to. The ace is better in some ways but the Q is less likely to be dominated. The earlier the position you raise with, the better the Q is compared to the A. From the SB, A2o is good to push with, since the BB probably doesn't have an A and may call you with K or Q high. From early position, I might prefer a suited connector if I don't have a legitimate raising hand, since you are likely to be called by an ace or king with a big card or a pair. If you push with 87s and get called by AKo, you are about even considering pot odds.

[ QUOTE ] two hands before this i folded Q9 in the CO [/ QUOTE ] why? Regards, Woodguy [/ QUOTE ] because i'm a coward? but then i was kicking myself for my cowardice, pushed A8o in utg+1 and got busted by JJ in retrospect, i think that Q9 in the CO was a better chance than A8 two spots later. do the people agree? |
