Default Edditing Videos Help PLz

As some know, Im a college student. To lighten up a presentation my group is doing a "street smartz" style intro to our topic. I have about 4, 1.5 min video clips that ask a person 3 questions. However, if u have seen the show u would probably understand me better, I want to break each of the videos into 3 small videos, each one consiting of only one Q+A. I used a digital video camera, and so i have the files on my computer. Im looking for a good (free) program taht would let me take clips of thes videos and make them into their own files.

Any help would be great. I crossposted this in OOT, not quite sure where I woul get the most help.

Thanks

Now that you've got a (probably) good answer, I semi-hijack your thread...

Can Adobe Premier be used to capture good quality screen shots from a DVD too (or is the Prt Scr button as good)? I want to grab a few stills from The Office and put it in a picture frame on the wall.

What about VirtualDub? I've only used it to fix corrupted movie files but I think you can use it as an editor.
