is there room for a better program than Pokertracker?
Hey all,
been reading these posts. i mentioned before that I will be doing my thesis concerning poker AI. This is an undergrad thesis so it won't be that intense compared to those done in masters/phd. I was thinking that creating a program similar to or better than pokertracker might be a better route. opinions? Thanks! Flint |

thats what i was initially thinking. At least with a poker AI i can show some originality and get a decent mark =P But for sure I want to do something poker oriented. thanks for the reply man |

There is definite room for improvement in PTracker.
Pokertracker doesn't handle nor process very large databases very well, and is fairly slow. Perhaps in the near future, the database management can be revamped so great efficiency and speed. |

That's one area where PT is lacking.

There's always room for alternatives. I think PokerTracker lacks in usability. Sure it's a great program, but it takes a lot of getting used to.
I would also like to be able to view my stats in graphs. E.g. a sliding average of VPIP (or aggression) over time, or money won or whatever. Whatever you do, focus on the parts where PT is below par and make them great. Don't try to outshine PT in areas where it is already good. I saw that PT had upcoming support for Omaha, but there are still other poker forms that have no stat program at all available. |

Open up your PT DB in Access and import relavent info into excel (I'm sure there is a better way, this is simple) and graph it. |

I will be doing my thesis concerning poker AI [/ QUOTE ] Probably not if you plan to implement AI functions - rooms will ban your application sooner or later. |

My understanding is that the next version of Poker Tracker will run on MySql instead of Access. I don't know very much about databases, but I have been told that MySql is much faster and efficient.
