Default HEFAP for marriage

In a previous post I said that HEFAP isn't just applicable to the 20/40 or 40/80 games, it's applicable to LIFE. Perhaps I have a different edition than everyone else. Here's what I mean

HEFAP for Marriage:

Preflop Concepts:

A marriage is more likely to be successful with a correct starting hand. We separate our discussions into early, middle, and late positions, as well as concepts from the Blinds.

Early Position (Ages 18-30):

When in early position, one can afford to be very selective about the hands that one plays, and the partner one picks. In general, we recommend limiting oneself to mates from Groups 1 and 2. For our male readers, this will often this will mean a large pair.

There is one exception to this advice. It is ok to play a hand like:

76s

if one has been drinking, and there is a chance of multiway action, and your opponents are not aggressive (i.e., they will not call you the next day). If you play these hands that crave multiway action, you will not win pots very often, but you will remember the ones that you do win.

Middle Position (Ages 31-50):

In middle position, one should be a little less selective about the hands one plays. In general, one should consider the action of those in early position who have already selected to play a hand. Ask them how they like their hands. Remember that one is looking for tells, and "weak means strong". If the early position players look like they want you to play your hand, fold. Something is amiss.

If you are a woman, you may want to play high "suited connectors". Suited connectors are less likely to hold an ignoble job title such as "professional gambler". They will also be easier to play in the later rounds.

However, you should avoid playing hands like:

98o

While these hands may look decent now, and may even look ok on the flop, in 20 years they will leave the toilet seat up.

Late Position (Ages 51 and higher): In late position, the focus becomes on stealing your opponents blind. If the blind has a large stack, try to avoid a prenup. In late position, you will be the last to act in every round. Use this to your advantage!

Whoops. =)

It should be noted that the purpose of this book is not to get every acronym correct, or to win any awards for writing, but rather to convey the serious concepts enumerated within, and to help our readers prepare for a 1 BB/hr marriage.

If you are in early position - Is it possible to check-raise your opponent in order to get him to fold a better hands? Except we know he wont let go of a big pair......

Seriously funny post.
