Default Cassandra Syndrome

Cassandra, in Greek legend you will recall,
was condemned to know the future but to be
disbelieved when she foretold it. Hence,
the agony of foreknowledge combined with
impotence to do anything about it.

Does anyone else here ever have a strange feeling that online poker is going to be targeted by intruding government forces (probably backed by the religious Christian conservative republicans)?

Once in a while I feel like I have to get as much money out of poker as I can because one day [soon] someone is going to start screaming about how innocent people are being lead astray by the devil's cards and begin to crack down on internet players... like the way they pinched a bunch of file sharing users of the Napster program.

Despite online casino businesses often being located overseas, there must be central server farms that exist in the U.S to cope with the bandwidth and connectivity. Will FBI agents one day be breaking down the doors of the servers in the U.S., collecting names and ISP address of account holders?

With the growing attraction of Hold 'Em, I wonder sometimes what devious little plots people like Billy Grahm and Jerry Falwell are hatching. Record companies were screaming that sharing files were destroying their profit margins. So I wonder what special interest group feels like online gambling is cutting into their bottom line.

What's the legal future of online poker?

hard to say - right now religious forces are trying very hard to make their voices heard on morality issues related to life or death (though not when it pertains to bombing Iraqi civilians) -

If they get enough control to institute a theocracy as many of them want, kiss democracy goodbye and then yah, you could have problems. - If things go the way as predicted in books like "The Handmaid's Tale"

Having said that, if it happens, I'm out of this lameass country.

You know those WWJD bracelets kids wear as a fashion/witnessing statement? - What Would Jesus Do? - Apparently Torture, Maim, Kill, and Steal from the poor to give to the rich."

I can see this happening. But I think it is more likely the game will be neutered to some extent.

I am thinking that within three-years it will be legal. But you won't win money. You will play for points that can be redeemed for prizes. There will be off-shore options available, but it will be a hassel to move your money back and forth. I predict during this time perios Canadian PO boxes and remailing services will be a valuable commodity.

Yes, apparently bringing water to a brain dead woman is vitally important ethically speaking, but bombing brown children doesn't seem to raise alot of hackles in the media.

Thanks for the responses and replies to the poll. I'm interested in hearing opinions about this.

Brain dead women would be toast if they controlled the world's oil supplies.

i have read a fair amount of lame, paranoid, fallacious posts on this site but this has got to be one of the most efficient ones. not a sentence goes by that doesn't encompass all three adjectives...

Do you care to elaborate on the topic at hand or does your ability to cogitate end with your ability to insult someone?

no it basically ends right there...

maybe i was being a little harsh... at any rate, there is no grounds for any of the argumentation put forward. an argument with no grounds is no argument.

so maybe this was an attempt at a legit post but when you talking about "hatching plots" without putting forward any evidence... its just speculation and his speculation is no better than anyone else's speculation on this forum. and the summation of all of our speculation is worthless without anything to base it on. therefore this post is probably worthless. qed.

I'm sorry you don't have any opinions about special interest groups, government corruption, religion in politics and how all this relates to online gambling... which is ILLEGAL in just about every state of the union.

I thought it bore some discussion and consideration as to where it's all going. Thanks for your contribution.
