Default Card Player: A great play by Barry Shulman!

This hand was profiled in the latest issue of Card Player Magazine.

Shooting Stars Poker tournament:

Blinds: T100 - 200

UTG - Mimi Rogers, a star with a $5000 real moolah bounty, moves in for T3000

Player A: Uknown, with~T10,000 stack - calls

Player B: Also unknown, with T6000 - calls.

Shulman on the button with T11000 - moves in. Shulman's hand is JsTs.

The person doing the analysis of this hand calls this a great move by Shulman. Me - I think it was a dopey move. Comments?

Vince

i concur
player B is commited to pot and is probably dominating J10, especially if he's just calling, not raising to isolate.

I would have folded without a 2nd thought, but what the heck do I know.

Player B has to call, as he is pot committed and getting almost 7 to 1. Awful play by Schulman IMO.

Depends on the payout structure of the tournament and where they're at right now. He's got a chance to win $5k, knock out a few opponents, and build up his stack. Was this some kind of charity event (based on the fact that there are stars with bounties)? Seems that the money could be comparable to the prizes AND the others in the pot might be playing less than premium hands in an attempt to knock her out.

I wouldn't go all in -- maybe worth a call -- but there's plenty of reasons why it isn't necessarily terrible.

I don't see it as being a good move.

I don't profess to be good, but if it were me, I'd figure I'm probably dominated and I still don't know what A is going to do against my push, since he's already put in 1/3 of his money.

B is pot committed with his short stack, so Barry's sure to be putting > 1/2 his stack in this hand against two others. Plus, if unknown A has maybe KQs he may say WTF and call all in as well, getting good odds to build a nice stack plus maybe knock down a $5K bounty as well. The guy's unknown, so we're assuming not a pro who I'd think may back off on this one.

I'm sure one if not all of those hands has him in deep trouble. Plus, I've got to figure the bounty loosens calling requirements quite a bit for the unknowns here.
