Which is Softer, B&M or Internet
I have been playing on the internet alot but have started to take trips to the local Casino. I have started to think that the B&M games are softer. My thinking is this:
1. I play smaller stakes that good players skip over. On the net it takes no time to jump from table to table but at a B&M you are more focused on the level you want to play before you even get there. The higher limits are in a different section, casino, or it's a waste of your time to get on a waiting list for a low stakes game and then again when you want to move up. 2. People don't go to the Casino just to play cards. On the net they are trying to learn and win. They are focused and may even have a starting hand chart in front of them. They go to the casino to get out of town, enjoy the sites, or just relax. I find that there hand requirements are lower because they want to "Play" not watch. They drove for an hour, give or take, to be entertained and experience the casino, not always to play correct poker. They don't play as aggressively because they only brought a certain amount of money to lose and don't want to go home early. If they go bust quickly on the net they can just catch the TV show they wanted to watch. If they went to a casino they have more time invested in getting there and back. 3. B&M takes away the anonymous nature of the internet. The large stack in front of the big aggressive guy at the end of the table is more intimidating in real life. Even without tells I think it affects people's play. I know I don't get any lip or profanity at a B&M like on the net. People feel safe in their home in front of their computer and play and act more aggressively. 4. Lastly, it's "REAL" money and chips. Casinos use chips so we don't think of it as money. But it is still MORE REAL then on the internet. You still have to give CASH to the casino for chips. You can SEE the large stack in front of your opponent and the small stake in front of you. Not that you can't go up against a good player or someone on a lucky streak, but overall I think B&M games are softer for the above reasons. Plese give me some feedback, opinions, and real life experiences on my theories. It could save me time, money, and my car. |

Yes, B&M games are almost always softer.
This is pretty well-known. The advantage of online play lies in the amount of hands you can play in a shorter period of time. It also saves money on gas, tips for the dealer, etc. But make no mistake about it, casino games are always significantly fishier. |

Bricks & mortar are used in construction and are generally quite hard. Internet is mostly wires but other parts can be metallic. Therefore it depends.
(Damn, you'd think I'd have something better to do) |

[/ QUOTE ] Yes B & M are much softer, but whether it's more profitable can be debated. 1. B & M have higher rake and you may want to tip the dealer. 2. Number of hands per hour is much less. 3. You cannot multi-table. SamJack |

Which is Softer? >>>>B&M<<<< not Internet
Softer? B&M by a country mile.
Which is more profitable per hour? Online by a mile. Which offers less 2nd hand smoke? Which has better buffets? Better cocktail waitresses? Depends on my mood but since I'm 10 hours away from Biloxi it's mostly online poker for me. |

Re: Which is Softer, B&M or Internet
Like some of the other posters mentioned, it's not just how soft a given game at a given limit is b&m as opposed to online, it's also which gives you more opportunity for more profit overall. Your most potent profit skill if you are a good player should be game selection, and only in the largest b&m cardrooms like the Commerce can you even come close to being able to exercise it as fully as you can online. Put game selection together with lower costs to play and multitabling/more hands per hour and it's not even close in my opinion that onine offers much more profitability overall.

Re: Which is Softer, B&M or Internet
other night I walked into Harrah's NO. Find the biggest limit hold em, which is 20-40 (only some nights). First hand I see, UTG raises, 5 or 6 cold callers. That is softer than Party 3-6. and that's typical of live games in Calif too, roughly. but they drop $5-rake + $1-jackpot + $1(min)-tip / hand. even at 3-6. it's still more beatable per hand. but for all the reasons mentioned, online is more profitable and more tolerable. unless you're one of those who have a deep need for "company".
