Default Trouble with side pots

What's the basic idea behind playing for sidepots. Do you just forget about the main pot and the people in them and concentrate on the new "empty" side pot. Or does the money in the main pot slill affect you decision making?

Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $.25 BB (10 handed) converter

MP2 ($9.20)
MP3 ($35.45)
CO ($38.05)
Button ($9.75)
SB ($17.95)
BB ($10)
UTG ($22.35)
UTG+1 ($17.20)
Hero ($34.95)
MP1 ($7.95)

Preflop: Hero is UTG+2 with 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
<font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, Hero calls $0.25, MP1 calls $0.25, MP2 calls $0.25, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, CO calls $0.25, Button calls $0.25, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($1.75) 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(7 players)</font>
SB checks, <font color="#CC3333">BB bets $1.75</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero raises to $9</font>, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, <font color="#CC3333">CO raises to $16.25</font>, Button folds, <font color="#CC3333">SB raises to $17.70 (All-In)</font>, BB calls $8 (All-In), Hero calls $8.70, CO calls $1.45.

Turn: ($64.60) 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(4 players, 2 all-in)</font>

At this point I'm in the main pot with everyone (~$40) and sidepot #1 with the SB (~$24). And there is a new empty sidepot #2 between me and CO.

There is at LEAST a 20% chance that I'll win it all (10 outs). If I were to get my last $17 in there I'd be getting 4-1 which would make it an even money situation.

Is this all I need to consider and just try to get it in, or are there other considerations?

<font color="#009B00">Main Pot: $40.75, between BB, SB and Hero.</font>
<font color="#009B00">Side Pot 1: $23.85, between Hero and SB.</font>
<font color="#009B00">Side Pot 2: $0, between Hero and CO.</font>

this hand is easy, don't flat call on the flop, go all in

on the turn I'd push so he doesn't see the river for free with all the draws out there. If he has the flush, the money was going in any way, no way to avoid it

Because CO raised half his stack after some one bet the pot, and some one else (you) re-bet the pot

I reckon he wouldn't mind putting in his other half. Also, he may have a flush draw, and if you flat call and check the turn, you let him off the hook for his last $20 when he misses
