JTs raise on the button

I normally play .5/1.

UTG just sat down at the table and bought in for $75 at a 3/6 table. I think he won a pot and lost a pot and basically broke even during this time.

Anyways, with the knowledge that a guy that buys in short-stacked probably isn't awesome or anything, I decide to push my hand a little harder on the pf than normal.

The SB is a rock after 20 hands, and the BB is a rock after 6 hands.

I've been playing about 20 hands here and I haven't done anything too crazy thus far.

Flop bet was to try to take the pot. The flop was a little too ragged for me to try the turn steal, but since it was a scary ace that fell, I figured I'd take a stab at it.

Please comment on the hand.

So you're saying you think UTG is a bad player. And, one of the defining characteristics of bad players is they call too much. And you bet on the turn with J high gutshot against someone who will call you down with anything.

To add what he just said. I believe you said you were playing .5/1. Most players at this level will sit on Ax, hoping to hit an A no matter what flops. Second, if he is bad, then he would probably call with ANYTHING. At these limits, my feelings are you have to be even more tight than usual.

But bad doesn't necessarily mean loose-passive. It could mean weak-tight. Right?

Buying in for 75 at a 3/6 table means exactly that, you can't characterize him as anything but a player unfamiliar with what kind of stack he needs. He could be loose passive, he could be loose-aggressive-passive, he could be anything. I'm probably a lag as it is, but I don't think I'd be betting into this flop, and I'd never bet into the turn.

I got lucky this time but I wasn't entirely comfortable with it.

Part of the reason of betting the flop was to get rid of the rock or both of them. I only half-succeeded there.

Betting on the turn was less valid, I think.

I can't remember the last time I raised PF then checked behind on the flop against 2 players. This is also a good turn card to bluff at. I like this hand.

I generally don't do it either, but you've got two weak draws here, and I really don't like betting into dudes readless if it's more than possible they'll call down with their pair of 3s. I reconsider, I'm not going to checkthrough the flop, but I will the turn if my turn bluff doesn't improve to a semibluff.

I play it the same way...check the turn heads up is weak, especially with the card that just fell...after the turn, i'm not putting any more $$$ into the pot unless of course you make a straight at the river.
