When joining a table, when will you go ahead and post up and start playing versus waiting for the BB?

I voted CO or BB, but I will post up in any position if the table is extra juicy.

i put MP3 or better but it's a toss up between that and CO or better. depends if i already have 3 other tables going or not. if i only have 1 table going so far then i will just post to get the action rolling. but if i have 3 tables up already then i just wait it out.

Where you post from makes almost no difference.

The game I play at isn't a raked game, but a time session game. I would prefer to wait for the blind, but since I am already paying for the time I’ll post right away.

At a full table I'll post from MP1 but in a shorthanded game I'll wait for the BB - posting in a shorthanded game is usually an invitation for someone to raise your random holding (moreso than a full ring) and the blinds are already coming around so fast that your BB only buys 3 hands before you're tossing in your blinds again.

I am cheap I never post and always wait for the BB. Ratiaonle: If you are only making 1BB/hr or 100 hands then waiting the 12 minutes (worse case) is clearly woth the wait.

I see people sit at a full ring game and not post at the CO when given a chance and wait for the BB to come around. These people either have poor math skills or want to watch a rotation to get a fill for the table.
Assuming a ten handed game, looking at the hands between post and the next BB: Post... Hands... Cost/Hand (in terms of small bets) BB..... 10...... 0.15 (includes BB+SB) UTG.... 1....... 1 U+1.... 2....... 0.5 U+2.... 3....... 0.33 M1..... 4....... 0.25 M2..... 5....... 0.2 M3..... 6....... 0.17 CO..... 7....... 0.14 Not only do you have position w/ the CO, but you are seeing hands cheaper. M3 is only slightly more expensive than posting in the BB and again you have position. |

When you post in the BB/SB you get 10 hands, although at a higher price per hand, at each position. When posting in the CO you get 7 hands at a cheaper price. The three hands you are missing are 2 early and 1 button. I don't think this is necessarily "better position." |
