5-handed I'd fold unless you're expecting everyone to limp along, which you probably weren't. Once you limp, though, you shouldn't fold.

Postflop looks ok if you have BB pegged as someone who massively overplays overpairs.

All the opponents at the table are 40+ VP$IP'ers if that helps.

so you will want to play a limped pot out of positon where the flop has to have at least overcard (usually 3) against 2-3 opponents (on average)? And do they raise much (perhaps a more relevant consideration 5-handed)

I see your point. The table was running about 14% pfr at the time of this hand.

You still didn't end up with a profitable preflop play. A 32 BB pot, of which you put in 8 BB, wasn't enough to cover the odds you needed for hitting a set putting in 3 bets.

I'm not sure that 4 players is enough, period. Especially if the shorthanded game is making their preflop play this aggressive.

Your logic is a bit off. Hero made up more than enough bets postflop to cover the bets he put in preflop.
