Hi, this is my first hand history post. Ive been lurking these forums for a long time now (1+ year). So, id just like to say thanks to everyone for their informative posts that have let me grow from a "hey i saw poker to tv" play money player to a winning micro stakes player.
Ok, now to the hand (10 person table at party poker 25NL) Relevent stacks: UTG: Hero $26.35 SB: Villan $27.05 Dealt to Hero: J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] I limp from UTG, 2 callers, SB (villan) completes, BB checks Flop: 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ($1.25 pot) SB/BB check Hero bets [$2]. folded to SB Villan calls [$2]. BB folds Turn: T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ($5 pot) villan bets [$8] whats my move here? I didnt think that i could fold here since there seemed to be a good chance he had a lower flush (or maybe just the A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] and making a semibluff) Is calling an ok option here since if he is is bluffing, i might be able to extract more money on the river? Although id be giving a lone A of spades a chance to catch. Results: Hero moves all in, villan folds . |

My thoughts:
PreFlop: Fold preflop. Flop: Fine. Turn: Consider raising on the turn... If opponent has the As, make him pay for his semibluff. If he has a low flush, or a straight, another spade on the river might slow the action down. If he has a higher flush, oh well!! I think this will be a spot where you want to be both pot committed before the river. Good Luck! Ojo_Rojo |

Fold preflop. The rest looks fine.

Hmm..preflop this is a good discussion bc personally I like to play high suited connectors in raised pots so I dont mind it being bumped up behind me.
I know many feel contrary to me...and usually I kind of tight preflop ...well maybe not for a 2+2'er. |

Everything looks good. There is a great philosophical debate about suited connectors. You were out of position but still managed to limp in. I think this is the correct play, especially with qj. You are going to hit either a made or draw hand 1:2.8. I want to play these hands

I prefer mid SC's or low SC's against a raise because it's less likely that you're sharing. I also prefer PP's to a raise.

I love suited connectors and QJs is a beautiful hand as long as you don't go berzerk on the weak pairs it makes. Limit, I fold this UTG because the implied odds are lower. No limit, I'm at least limping with this from any position, if it gets raised too much to where I can't call...I've only lost the big blind, and if I don't flop a big draw, it's very easy to get away from, so all the Big blinds lost from not making a draw or a hand, are well made up for the big pots you'll take down with it when it makes a hand and all the semi-bluffing opportunities you'll get from it.

Try to commit him on the turn if possible. If the last spade hits you're still getting your money in. Invoke... THE MINI-RAISE!!!

fold JQs from early position?
My VP$IP is currently at 11% after 3k hands, i shouldnt be playing tighter should i? Am i just playing the wrong types of hands? Or perhaps im just too tight from the SB (~16% VP$IP from SB)? |

I thought to myself "the min raise ont he turn would be a good way to get him to commit myself" but then I thought "min raises are evil" and "another spade / alot of cards will kill your action" go for the gold.
