Default Undecided between 2 Vegas hotels.

Im heading out to Vegas in April. Im planning on either staying at the Plaza or Imperial palace. I've called their poker room and got a pretty decent rate between the two. The IP is a about $14 a night higher than the Plaza. These two pretty much fit within my budget for staying 4 nights.

Can anyone give me a recent review and advice of the hotel rooms, service, food, clientele and of course their poker room? Im little undecided between the two.

Thanks for the help.

www.cheapovegas.com has a good review of both.

I hear IP has soft games, plus they comp $3/hour that you can use for food and/or your hotel bill.

The first question you really have to answer for yourself is if you want to be on the strip or Downtown.
IP is at the heart of the strip and the Plaza is Downtown. Two totally different worlds and experiences!
I would personally go to the IP. I like the strip and stayed at the IP at the end of January and thought it was great. Of course I am easy to please. Room was fine, food was fine for me, and I liked the Poker room, especially the $3 per hour comps they give you there which you can use for food or even towards the cost of the room!
The IP's location is also right in the heart of all the Strip Poker rooms as well as just right in the heart of everything else on the mid strip!

I totally agree with fishwhenican, you have to decide between the strip and downtown.

I totally disagree with fishwhenican, I'm a downtown kind of guy, I would go with the Plaza. They keep the rooms clean, you have easy access to all the other downtown casinos, food is cheap (Gold Nugget and Binion's steak house are two good selections), and you have the Fremont Street Experience.

Stay at the Imperial Palace on the Strip. Downtown sucks.

IP and the Plaza are both kinda dark and grimey... I'd say stay at one of the coast props (orleans, gold coast) and youll be central to alot of games.. IP is closer to many more poker rooms, about 3 in walking distance - harrahs, mirage, ballys, aladdin.. and a $3 tram to Mandalay Bay, Excalibur, soon to be MGM.. list is endless... staying in DT your isolating yourself to an expensive cab ride away from the strip's central games...

coast props are off-strip close enough, and cheap enough where it's well worth it compared to a dingy IP whose PR is only good for the comps, not the boring limit games

I agree with the previous posters that the IP is your best bet. The central Strip location puts you within easy walking distance of poker rooms at Harrah's, Flamingo (not recommended), Bally's, Mirage, Bellagio not to mention the IP's room which I found rather friendly and fishy. The $3/hour comps at the IP poker room are also a plus.

Wada...I just stayed at the Imperial Palace and I'd like to go back and stay there again in June - but I'm peeved cause I think their room rates went up as summer approaches

First off, you're at the HEART of the strip. - the Mirage is right across the street and Bellagio is a 5 min. walk - yer also on the monorail for another half dozen poker rooms.

the poker room is soft, but it is LL (usually 3/6 and 2/4) but there's almost always a $100 NL game going in the evenings - those $3/hr comps add up - I coulda ate in Vegas for free with those provided I made it to the food serving places on time....

the waitresses are gorgeous - and are fairly quick to swing thru the poker room, whereas the Mirage took hrs. to get anyone there...

downsides...and this is a big one...no Jamesons whiskey...I had to drink Bushmills... - I almost quit drinking when I was there...LOL - oh, and the elevators suck dogballs - at least once a day I just took the stairs down 8 floors instead of waiting for it-

people said it was dingy, but not like the one next door - I didn't really see dingy, and quite frankly, I spent about 6 hrs. in there a night, 30 min. for showering, and I'd swing thru once in a while to get a walkman.

but I've never been downtown....but I know the taxi's are expensive there.

my .02, Strip way better than downtown. If you have a car whe you are there, drive downtown, park, walk around, come back here and post your thoughts. Dynasty is right.

If you guys had a rental car - would that make your choice any different?

For those of you wondering why I would be getting a rental - its because this trip's sole purpose is because I am a best man in a wedding. Plus the girlfriend is coming as well. So I'll have a rental car which is why I was considering staying at the Plaza for $14 less a night when I can just drive to the IP, Mirage etc... to play.

Due to this wedding and hanging out with my buddy whose sealing his fate - I dont know what kind of time constraints I will have as far as playing poker. Although we all know we must make time for poker! With the possible time constraint of being a problem, more than likely I wont want to be waiting an hour to play at the Mirage unless I get lucky. So my plan is to hit up the games that dont have waits like the IP. Im mostly a 2/4 and 3/6 player so Im not looking for a higher limits.

A few of you guys mentioned the IP as being dingy and one of you mentioned that both IP and Plaza were grimey. That was the feeling I got on both hotels. And that was the concern of mine. Was hoping one of you guys would say one was better (meaning quality of atmosphere) than the other.

I would love to stay at the Gold Coast, which I have before but their poker room rate is much higher plus Im required to play 3hrs/day. The 3hrs per day would not be any problem whatsoever if I had not been going out there to be in a wedding and hang out with him.

Thanks for all the opinions guys...helps me take alot into consideration.
