Default Some observations on player names

I've noticed that a player's name often says something about their style of play. As Caro said, strong means weak, weak means strong.

Note, names have been changed to protect the guilty.

Fishy names, like trout, cutebunny, imuseless, tend to be TAGs.

'Cool' names, like assassin, shark, wolf, trickyplaya, tend to be fishy players.

Names containing the word 'rock' tend to be LAGs.

Names containing the word 'bluff' tend to be rocks.

Thoughts?

According to poker tracker, 4 of my biggest fish are Tuna, Fish, Fish, and Trout (first part of their names, the last part is like Tuna4 for eg).

I tend to find people with numbers after their name are newer, looser, while people with actual codenames (like us), are better. This shouldnt be used for any purpose though, just a sidenote of mine.

Fishy names are definately TAG. A couple that I use, p0ker_bunny, julie_kess, JennyKK. I don't know if people perceive me any different though.

At the NL25 party tables, I love playing against anyone who has the word "pimp" or "dawg" in their name. Ha ha.

I've noticed that number thing also. It seems especially true for players that have no need for the number.

And of course, anyone uses some variation of a name from Rounders, is usually terrible. I would expect the same thing from players that use names from 'tilt'. Although I wouldn't recognize them, so that doesn't do me any good.

What is "tilt"? Some kind of poker show/movie?

Yes, on ESPN, but don't bother watching it, unless you really have some time to kill.

As a rule, I've found that if an opponent's name contains the words "golf" or "pilot", it's a gonna be a gooooood session

One of the best players on 2+2 has one of the most fishy seeming screen names for exactly the reasons expounded in this thread. I wouldn't read too much into this.

With pokertracker and playerview/gametime, there's no reason to be basing your play off of screen names
