Default Popping your cherry, \'big-game\' style

Negreanu blog:
"Phil [Ivey] finally turned to me and said, "You finally broke your cherry." I didn't have to ask him what he meant by that, I totally understood that he was referring to being stuck a million dollars in a poker game."

getting stuck 160+ BB's single-tabling? all I can say is 'wow' that is variance...

Makes me put my measley 20BB downswing at the local 1/2 cardroom in perspective.

yah I know but that doesn't change anything, that is a lot of variance which imlies an immense bankroll.

160 BB in NL is not even 2 full Buy-ins at capped online games. Of course it makes a difference.

Maybe that's how some of these big time players get into trouble and need backers. In an earlier blog, Daniel mentioned that they were playing with $1 chips because they don't travel with that kind of cash and everyone, to paraphrase, is "good for it" when it comes time to settle. Sometimes you just aren't "good for it" and end up needing backing to get unstuck.

ok, so 50 buy-ins of 80BB's per buy-in equals
50 x (80 x 8,000) = $32,000,000 bankroll

30 buy-ins = $20mm

you just can't equate that amount of a BB to online buy-ins...

This is just sick!!

In a previous blog I mentioned a couple hundred thousand dollars as being "manageable"

it would be tough to take the tournament seriously since just last night I was flipping coins at $100,000 a pop while first place in the PPT is $225,000.
