Default Not a Fun Spot

Same villian as last hand, best at the table with the possible exception of yours truly.

i have 1900 of he has me covered by a couple bucks.

folded to him on the button and he opens for $30, i make it $90 with AA.

he calls.

flop: 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

i check, villian checks.

turn:J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

i bet $150, villian quickly calls.

river: 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

i check.

thoughts? comments?

You play good.

I assume you are planning on calling any reasonable sized bet?

Can you explain the flop check?

Any reason not to be the flop? Le cheque-raise?

I think you are ahead. AJ-AKs, QQ-KK are all possible. I'm calling a small bet on the river but a big one is tough. I probably try and block this river, make him think twice about betting big.

I don't play this high so take this with however much salt you need to feel happy.

Why did you check the flop? Are you worried you're behind or trying to disguise your hand?

Betting a non danger card on the turn seems to be a good plan. His quick call is an interesting one but my read of it in this situation is that he is drawing to the flush. I think he has you pegged firmly on overcards and holds AKs/AQs/KQs or lower suited connectors raised for disguse. He called your initial raise looking for the flush and the flop made him happy. He's already decided to chase for any reasonable price with the aim of stacking you if the flush hits and you can't get away. As a result the $150 is cheap enough for him to have a stab so he insta-calls because his mind is made up. A hand like AJ would definatly think about things here and probably toss it. A set might also insta call but in my experience people tend to try to be a bit cleverer with their set slowplaying and tend to wait around a while. I don't really see two pair here given that he's a decent player.

So if all that was true on the turn then on the river he's missed and has notihng, you check to him having shown weakness on the flop and now on the river. I expect he tried to take it way from you with a decent sized bet. Hopefully you called and too the pot.

Then again I'm probably wildly wrong.

Reraising preflop then checking flop <---- don't like it.

Pot bet that flop and take it down.

You let him get to the river for $150 post-flop with $180 in there preflop. Sounds like a surefire way of getting yourself in these [censored] situations.

What was the plan if villain bet the flop? Was this a check-raise attempt if he tried to steal from your "missed AK"?

Even though you might be inducing a bluff I think I would block the river... although he still might read you for an overpair-ish hand and attempt to steal anyway.

The interesting part of this hand (to me) is that putting him on a range of hands seemss harder than it is for *him* to put *you* on a range... which opens the door for all sorts of shennanigans on his part. Am I wrong in thinking this?

Interesting hand.

FSU -

I understand why you took the line you did here - not wanting to play a big pot OOP with just a pair.

But how does your line change if your opponent bets 2/3 - pot on the flop?

Do you simply call?

What if you check and he pots the turn as well? What then?

Then it becomes an easy fold on the turn.

exactly.

which is why I wanted to keep the pot small.

if I pot that flop, the pot becomes $360, with over $1500 left to bet, with 2 streets left to bet on a drawy board.

if I pot the flop and he calls, what then on the turn?

bet $350? I dont like that at all, as he knows my holding almost exactly at this point.

when I check the flop, I could have a much wider range of hands.
