Default AJs vs a steal raise

standard or spewing? the button in this hand is capable of making a steal raise here, the sb just sat down.

Party Poker 1/2 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is BB with A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
6 folds, Button raises, SB calls, Hero 3-bets, Button calls, SB calls.

SB checks, Hero bets, Button folds, SB calls.

Turn: (5.50 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, SB calls.

Nice hand. I play exactly the same way against a probable steal.

Looks like SB's on QT or JT.

Once the SB calls, you should just call instead of 3-betting.

If the SB is passive you could check behind on the turn and probably fold the river to a bet UI. SB usually has you beat when he calls your turn bet anyway so I don't think this is bad, plus if you got raised on the turn it would be really bad, as you have some outs to the best hand for sure.

If the SB is aggressive (doesn't appear to be the case), then checking behind on the turn and maybe inducing a river bluff would be better.

I agree with everything you said except this:

I think that AJs is a strong hand (especially against a likely steal raise) and I think that you are going to have the best hand here a very large chunk of the time. This would be a 3-bet for me as well.

I see. Yeah I think you have a good point, plus it helps us keep the momentum postflop. Definitely have an equity edge here though.

wow! AQo eh? you're lucky, you could have lost a lot more.

i think the SB played this hand pretty well to slow play through the flop. he should have check-raised on the turn and then crushed you on the river- though he might have thought you had a full house with that paired 9.

i don't think he was crazy to stay in with that hand. anybody disagree?

I disagree with just about all of that. Did u misread the borad and think villain had a straight?

Hero couldn't have lost much more (maybe 1 BB)

Flop is not a slowplay (although he does have the nut no pair).

I think if villain wanted to pick up this pot, he needs to get in the driver seat, and c/r'ing the turn won't cut it.

Perfect.

I may have bet the river... but it probably wouldn't have been +EV. So, perfect.

There could be a case made for checking through the turn, but I don't want to drop the commando in a blind defense, or heads up at almost any time, unless I know that the opponent is tough or tricky.
