dazed and confused
hi i'm new, i don't really know what i'm doing. i can beat the party fish, but i want to do better. i ran into a tricky lag villain today and lost a lot of money. his stats were vpip 60% pfr 23% w$wsf 40% and w$asd 44%. i found his play very confusing, as i'm sure you'll see from the way i played these hands. villain played back a lot on the flop and turn. i expected most of my bets to be min raised whether he had something or not. he had also moved me off my blinds far too often for my liking.
aside from losing my money it was fun, and as long as i can learn something and play another day thats all that matters right? Re: dazed and confused
Hand 1. Don't protect your blinds.
Hand 2. Fold to the min-raise on the flop. Hand 3. I'm taking the same line as you here. |

Re: dazed and confused
Two words. Pot. Control. I beleive this is the key to playing tricky players.
If you don't have a great hand (i.e. hand two: top-pair with a monotone flop), don't elevate the pot. This plays right into the tricky fellow's hands. He wants you to get your money in when you don't have the best of it. The other thing is, you're giving him huge implied odds. Once again, exhibit some pot control. Call raises with a decent hand, or just fold right there. When you do make your stand, make sure you have the nuts. And try to get involved with him when you have position on him. I agree with tbach... blinds are not worth defending in most NL cash games; this isn't a tournament with elevating blinds. If you get a good hand when he tries to steal, overbet the pot, and overbet again on the flop. |
