Default Never know till you try... (no content)

A while back a friend of mine and I got into a passive discussion on what to do when the board is showing the nuts. This only really occurs when broadway is showing. (yes, I know quads and an Ace, but that's not the point) The question was whether or not to insult your opponent (and waste game time) on betting the river. His philosophy was, hey- you never know until you try...
I was in a backroom game last night, about 400 in front of everybody. The pot was small (about 150 between three players) and my two pair of 10's & J's weren't looking to good when the king turned. It checked through, and the Ace hits the river, showing a rainbowed broadway.
I push all in, laughing to myself and thinking how I'm going to have to call my friend about this. The second guy shrugs his shoulders, and rolls his eyes at me. "Yeah, me too."
The third guy looks at his hole cards and pauses (player two and I exchange looks) and he mucks it, saying "One of you two must have me beat.
Hey... You never know till you try.....

I really don't see any point in betting this type of board unless you're fairly certain that your opponent will fold what is obviously a split pot. Otherwise, you're just putting money into the pot that you're going to get back.

huh? If there is a 1 in 1000 chance, no 1 in 1,000,000,000 chance you should bet. Always bet when the board holds the nuts, jeez. No bet-0% chance of taking whole pot. Bet-maybe less than 1% , but I HAVE done it. ALWAYS BET

It's funny but I have been in this situation a number of times and have seen it more. For me, the issue is whether there is someone who is distracted enough (i.e., multitabling) to make the mistake of not calling. I have seen enough folds to more than cover the rake that you are generating with the all in (that is called).

What is really silly is seeing people minreraising each other back and forth.

He stated the pot was $150 so I was assuming the rake was already maxed out.

It's a backroom home game, no rake.

Nothing really... I've previously considered it to be a waste of time in most senarios. It slows the game down a little and is kind of insulting to the 99% of opponents that call. I never really imagined that an opponent at a higher stake would be dense enough to not call. Like I said, you never know till you try. The guy was sleeping at the wheel. I think he folded a nine and his mind went off to la-la-land when the bullet hit.
On a side note, while I only made 25 dollars more than I would have otherwise, the villain got really embarrassed and played a pretty poor game for the rest of the night. He was calling down hands that couldn't beat a bluff. I don't know if there's a better way to put a man on tilt than embarrassing him.
