Default Our Nation is Liberal

Want proof?

Look at the Right Wing. They are always saying "Schools are too Liberal, the Media is too Liberal, Hollywood is too Liberal"

Look at Sean Hannity. Equating Liberalism to Terrorism. Is he jealous, is he crazy, or does he know that Regressivism is dying and he has to do some fear mongering to keep it alive?

Look at Michael Savage. Have you seen his book, the Savage Solution? The Savage Solution? What is he, a Nazi? Like Hannity, he has to resort to extremism, fear, and bigotry to keep his dying ideology alive.

Our nation is Liberal and the Right Wing knows it. Don't believe the Right when they say Election Results prove our nation is Conservative. You can thank Diebold and the fear of Terrorist attacks for that.

Our nation will always be Liberal and no amount of Right Wing Fear Mongering, Extremism, or Bigotry could ever change that.

you are living in a world that does not exist. I suggest you get out of NY/Boston/New England/California and talk to real Americans. You wont find so much support for your theory if you do.

Isn't Boston in New England?

And Kerry won more states than those that you listed, indicating that liberal thought is not confined just to those areas listed above.

Kerry also won Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, and Hawaii, just to name a few.

of course it is, however, i wanted to encompass all of NE and failed to remove boston from the group, my mistake.

now, the northeast, i will call it that from now on, is fairly heavily liberal, the uppermidwest is fairly evenly split, but recently has been more liberal than conservative, the west coast is also quite liberal, hawaii and california being the standouts in the west.

now, i know liberal thought is not just confined to those areas. the disease has indeed spread throughout the country. however, if you look at just about EVERY issue, the majority of the population of the US falls on the conservative side of it. from abortion, to gay marriage, to economics, to defense, the conservative view is shared by more of the nation than the socialist/liberal view. one stand out on the opposition to my point is social security reform (apparently). the nation is fairly split on this issue, but it looks like the liberal view is slightly ahead here. i think that has more to do with who is doing the polling, but i digress. long story short, this is not a liberal nation. (notice i didnt necessarily say it was conservative either)

Disease?

That's an interesting word to use to describe a long-time political ideology in this country.

So you're saying I'm infected with a disease?

Okay.

I also don't care how the majority of the population feels about abortion. Half of them should have no say in it at all(the men). They're not the ones who get pregnant and have to carry babies for nine months. So they should butt out.

I also don't care how the majority of the population feels about gay marriage. Forty years ago, a majority in this country opposed interracial marriage. I think that 40 years from now people who oppose gay marriage will be similarly scorned.

As for Social Security, you'd better not touch mine. You have no right to dismantle a program that has worked successfully for more than 70 years. You guys are talking about doing a transplant on the patient when all he needs is a bandaid. Simply raising the cap on income subject to Social Security would solve the problem for the next 100 years at least.

People are never going to be able to live forever. Eventually we will find a point to leave the cap at where Social Security is safe and secure.

In two words, you're wrong. The rightists talk about liberal influence in order to try to counteract it (or what they see as "it"). Ronald Reagan was widely viewed as unelectable when he first ran in 1976. He's now viewed as a great, great man. The Democrats had controlled both houses of Congress almost uninterrupted since the New Deal. Now conservatism is on the ascendancy and in power. No politician running for national office will even use the word "liberal" to describe himself. The Republicans control both houses of Congress and the presidency. Check to see what most people think of the Bill of Rights when asked specific questions if you think our country is mostly liberal.

Of course that has nothing to do with the legal questions involved, which are completely different. strict scrutiny v intermediate scrutiny, which is a lot bigger step than the language woudl suggest.

Oh, and I think the majority of the population of a number of states made very clear how they feel about gay marriage.

EDIT: the strict v. intermediate thing assumes an equal protection argument, and not a "right to privacy" argument. I assume gay marriage proponents will pursue an equal protection route.

Part of the loss in power of the Dems can be attributed to the fact that Republicans are MUCH better politicans than Dems.

Maybe so. And Reagan had the good fortune to run against a president who was viewed as weak and incompetent, with hostages being held in Iran and interest rates having crested at 20% (or whatever the high rate was). But I'm a liberal and I don't see the evidence for liberals being a majority now. I do see evidence for the contrary.
