Need help on this river decision
Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (10 handed) converter
Preflop: Hero is CO with J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. 3 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, 1 fold, Hero raises, 3 folds, MP1 3-bets, MP2 calls, Hero calls. Flop: (10.50 SB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players) MP1 bets, MP2 folds, Hero raises, MP1 3-bets, Hero calls. Turn: (8.25 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) MP1 bets, Hero calls. River: (10.25 BB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) MP1 checks, Hero................... I bet here and right afterwards I felt horrible about it; however, when I thought about it again and how odd MP1's check on the river is, I began debating it. My assumption was this: MP1 was merely betting out his AK. How bad or good is it? |

My assumption was this: MP1 was merely betting out his AK. [/ QUOTE ] Maybe but it doubtful. Even if he did he's not calling your "value" betenough here for it to be +EV. Take the free showdown and get shown AA |

Re: Need help on this river decision
IMHO, I do not like the bet.... given the action on previous streets, would you fold to a raise or call it?
I would check, for the sake of losing one BB I would want to see it. Regards D |

Re: Need help on this river decision
Agreed, I would check it down. You realized afterwards what you did so maybe next time you will slow down a bit. It happens.

Re: Need help on this river decision
if you want to see a showdown you should call down starting on the flop. what do you hope to accomplish by raising? you're ahead of AK and TT. you're giving those hands a chance to fold, and every better hand a chance to extra more money from you.
call the flop, call the turn, if checked to on the river, you can bet and fold to a raise or check behind. i'm sure someone could make an argument in that circumstance for bet/calling... but i'm not sure i see it. |

Re: Need help on this river decision
Seeing that it was heads up on the flop, you're right in that I should have just called down.
I was shown KK and the pot went to my opponent. |

Re: Need help on this river decision
I check this river through.
Only three things can happen when you bet: 1. He folds (no value in betting) 2. He check-raises you (Lost value, do you have the discipline to fold to the river check-raise?) 3. He calls. The only favourable outcome is #3. The question is: What worse hand calls you here? I doubt there are many (compared to the other possibilities). Given the action thus far, villain likely either has you beat or he has a broken flush draw. Adam |
