Party Poker Million
Anyone been before? I'm only 20, and thinking about accompanying my friend on the trip. I emailed party, and they said i could go, and would be allowed to play in the side games.
How are the side games? Lots of action? Lots of games spread? Anyone whos been there before i would greatly appreciate any information on the cruise, and whether or not it's worth it for me to go. Is there internet connection on the boat? In each room? |

Re: Party Poker Million
I have been on several cruises so can answer the internet questions. All of the ships that I have been on have had wireless access throughout the ship and computers in their library that you can use. The problem is the cost. It is $0.50 a minute if you don't buy a package. You can get it down to about $0.30 a minute with a package. That is pretty high if are planning on jamming up the $1/$2 at Party though.

Re: Party Poker Million
I searched unsuccessfully for any trip reports from prior PPM cruises... does anyone know if there are some floating around somewhere?

Re: Party Poker Million
I think that they want you to frequent the poker room rather than watching porn on the wireless internet.

Re: Party Poker Million
I say don't worry about it and just go anyway.
If the games suck then you will still have fun getting hammered on the cruise with 2 stops in Mexico (ummm...Hello?!?....did I hear someone say "Spring Break College Chicas?!?") If the games are actually good then all the merrier. It's a bunch of online-qualifiers....many of the 'big name' players will be at the Rio that week during their WSOP-qualifier event or whatever it is. The EPT championship in Monte Carlo is taking place as well. Because of this I suspect there won't be as much extremely high action of the 400/800 variety. But many of these online-qualifiers may have a general tendency to suck...but will probably be less likely to play terribly high. If the games are rock-gardens I would be pretty surprised. I looked through the list of players who have qualified and recognized a couple who I had on my buddy-list at 15/30 because they are something like V-60. you're 20...the gambling and drinking age on international waters is 18. The only reason for you not to go is if you have better opportunities elsewhere. For example...except for the stop-overs at the Mexico ports I anticipate that the ship won't exactly be crawling with babes. It could very well be 80% dudes with a serious online-poker-nerd streak. all of the above is just my general hunch and isn't based on any actual prior experience. |

Re: Party Poker Million
I was on the cruise last year and the poker room had almost 40 tables. They spread everything from 2/4 to 400/800 Hold'em, Omaha, Stud or whatever there was enough interest in playing.
Internet access is available on the ship, but extremely expensive. The funniest thing I saw on the ship was a guy multi-tabling Ultimate Bet in one of the ship's lounges while a really bad karaoke night was going on. The low stakes Hold'em games were pretty soft as a lot of spouses/companions were playing in these games, along with no bankroll players like me. If you are getting free cruise out of it, I wouldn't think twice about going as it was a tremedous experience. The cruise alone is worth more than 2 grand. |

Re: Party Poker Million
Nice review...thanks.
My GF is already aware that she will likely be one of only a handful of people on the boat who has absolutely no clue how to play poker. Interesting that so many of the spouses/companions play the ring-games...I would have thought there were more couples like us (where the girl doesn't give a flip whether 2-pair beats trips or that AA is the best starting hand). |
