Oppenent is 30/15. He hasn't been at the table very long, but seems pretty good as far as I can tell.
Party 5/10 6max, Hero has 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] on the button CO open-raises, Hero 3-bets, blinds fold, CO calls flop: A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] check, bet, call turn: T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] check, bet, raise, oops... I'm lost here, I can't put him on a hand at all. Seems that all options (fold, call, raise) are somewhat viable (probably not folding though with the flush draw), but damned if I know which one is best. And should I have checked rather than bet the turn? |

Betting the turn is good. I'd probably lay it down to the CR unless you know him to be laggy, in which case calling down no matter what river hits is fine. I don't like reraising here at all.

Thanks, Zele. I called it down (river was a blank). Results in white: A9o, no clubs, HHIG

HHIG means "hero's hand is good", right? Or am I missing something

HHIG means "hero's hand is good", right? Or am I missing something [/ QUOTE ] Sadly, no. His Hand is Good. And that kind of gives away the result, though not the actual hand. Oh well, the hand didn't generate much interest anyway... |

I think checking behind on the turn would be good against a reasonable opponent. He has a better hand than you and isn't going to be folding it, but I'd like to be able to see a river card.

[/ QUOTE ] Thanks, Nate, that makes sense. And perhaps interestingly, the way you play this one A9o I play weird, is why I was thinking a 3 bet could make sense. And also b/c it probably costs the same as calling it down, as I did. |

You bet the flop so that he can fold two big cards under an ace and above your 99. Sometimes they fold big pairs under aces. When he called the flop, he is playing his hand despite the ace. Might as well draw at the 9 high flush, but 2 bets to do it?
