The new "Las Vegas" Nexgens have some good points and some bad points I think. I thinks its great that they did put the dots on the edges. I hate that they werent consistant with the edge spots, some have 3 edgespots and some have 4. Of the samples I received a couple of the ones that had 4 edgespots were totally misaligned. If you look at the edgespots on the red chip and the white chip above you'll see what I mean.

so does nexgen make chips that don't say anything as opposed to 'river poker tour' and 'las vegas'?

I just got my Nexgen 8000 sample in the mail (i got 40 so I had plenty of each color to play with)
A lot of people were asking for opinions. So this is as good as any place to give mine. First of all, I wasnt that impressed with the feel right away. But a lot of people have said that and then went on to say that after they were played wtih for a while they felt a lot better. I cannot agree more! After shaking them in a pillow case and shuffling them several times, they feel A LOT better. Compared to the 11.5g chips I have, there really isnt any comparison. Looks are a lot better. Sound is 100 times better. When spashing a pot or shuffing the chips. ITs a softer duller sound, and I like it a lot more. A few negitive aspects in my opinion: I dont like the diamonds around the edge. It would look at lot better in my opinion if it were just the edge spots similar to the 8002. The chips were somewhat easily damaged with my fingernail. You could 'stretch' the plastic of the chip by digging into the crevises. This discolors the chip a bit. But it should be fine as long asyou dont dig your nails. I also noticed, after shaking them around, they scratched each other and gave the same "discolored" effect from the damage. But overall, I liked them a lot better. I really like some of the newer nexgens. They dont ahve the diamonds around the edge. But I dont like the ones where there are 3 edgespots, each one a different color. If they could create a set similar to the the originals, without diamonds, and with multicolored edgespots unlike the ones that just came out, then it would be perfect!!! just model an entire set just like the RPT green, black, purple, yellow... |

My Nexgen 8000s came in recently and I have to agree w/ everything that fishfeet said. The only negative that I have to add is that the edgespots are made from a different material... it is a much harder plastic and as the chips wear you can feel the difference on the edge. Not a big deal... you can't go wrong for the price, they're very nice chips.

What are your guys opinions about the weight. One of the drawbacks of the 11.5 gram chips is that they are heavy. Does the weight, 12.5 grams, make them feel to heavy?

I beleive they are only 12g, but could be 12.5.. havent weighed them
While they are heavier, they just simply feel much better. I dont mind the extra weight. It helps them stack better (as well as them having texture) I put a stack of 40 nexgens beside a stack of 40 11.5 suited chips. I shook the table lightly. The stack of 11.5 lost the top half rather quickly. The nexgens didnt move too much. Then after another 10 or so seconds, the rest of the 11.5 chips fell completely, while the nexgens stayed pretty straight. They are definatly worth their price. I just wish I had enough money on me now to purchase a full set of a 1000. (although, I think I might FINALLY have a job! Its so damn hard finding a job in a college town. If I get it I can start to play poker again ) |

[/ QUOTE ] When you say one of the draw backs of the 11.5g's is their weight is that your opinion (i.e. that they are too heavy)? If so, 12.5 (and even 12) is > 11.5 I don't think I notice unless I have a side-by-side comparison... well maybe just slightly if I was thinking about it but it really doesn't bother me... now the 13g's chips are approaching that annoying heavy weight (tangiers definitely there... matsui 25+er's way past!) but the 12-12½g's not really that noticeable. If anything the "real clays" they make lighter on purpose are more annoying with regard to weight IMHO. - Fins |

Its definately worse having a slightly lighter chip than a heavier one. |
