when does table selection come into play?
i've played live stuff for a while and always look at the tables i'm joining at the casinos... so i know table selection matters. my question is what level (buy in) of sngs does it start to matter. for example when i first started playing limit and i was playing 3/6 or 5/10 games at the casino i would never request a table... sometimes (very few) i would ask to be moved. however when i moved up to high limits and especially now that i usually play nl table selection is a big part of my plan. so far this has been my same action with sngs. i've only played 5 and 10 buy in sngs and have never once looked at who will be at the table however i know once you get to a certain buy in this should be looked at often. in your opinions where is that line? (i don't think it's until at least 50 if not higher but i would like to know when that should become a common things for me in sngs)?
thanks as always Gerard |

Re: when does table selection come into play?
for the most part i know who the solid 55 and 109 players are, and i know to avoid them when i see them. if i recognize 2 players i know to be solid sitting at the table, i wont sit down. its -ev. i can wait 3 minutes and join a better game. once you play a lot in the bigger sngs you will be able to recognize who is solid and who keeps donating. just take good notes.

Re: when does table selection come into play?
is this an issue at all in the 20's ?(my next move) or not until at least the 50s?

Re: when does table selection come into play?
hmm, cant really help ya there, i played the 22s when i first started for maybe 2 days. i would imagine it would come into play at the 33 level, as a lot of better players play those than the 22s. however, if you notice someone a lot, that is usually a sign that they are at least decent, so keep an eye out.

[/ QUOTE ] Keeping notes is never a bad idea but the truth of the matter is you won't run into many players enough in the 22s to make it worth your while strictly for table selection purposes. At the 33s I think it matters somewhat, at the 55s+ it surely can be significant. Yugoslav |

for the most part i know who the solid 55 and 109 players are [/ QUOTE ] This concept intrigues me greatly. Specifically for the 55's, who are the top 5 players you'll avoid? I ask because I play 55's exclusively and I can't think of any names that I know well enough to avoid. There is maybe a handful of names that I respect, but none well enough to avoid. My PT data shows 1,135 55's and my most frequent opponent is 18 times. I've only played 17 players 10 or more times. Of those 17 players, only 9 are ahead. Please enlighten me with the names of the top 55er's. |

Avoid me like the plague.
Haha Seriously though I haven't really played enough 50s to answer your question well as there are quite a lot of 50s players on party, so far I have found one or too that I know multitable and are decent players but the 50s overall are pretty soft. I four table the 50s right now. |

Re: when does table selection come into play?
I have a related question. At what level do the tables fill up slow enough to be able to choose, rather than just sit down in the first empty seat hoping it doesn't get taken? I find the 5's and 10's fill up too fast to care who's there, and it doesn't matter anyway.

With them filling so fast, my advice is to only note good players, and if you see 2-3 notes before you sit, just play the next one. You don't have the time to do an analysis of the table. Lori |
