for a plethora of reasons, you need to bet as you would if you held TPTK. unless youre normal bet is 1/2 pot, you need to bet more. from the tone of your post he had QQ or 44, but most of the time he wont and you won't get all the benefits, both in hand and metagame, of having bet a strong hand strongly.

He played it just like he had TPTK. You played it just like you had garbage. Your plan has to be to get all-in here. And you are not on that trajectory (without a little help from him on the river.) I would probably bet $3, $7, $12. But I often bet 2/3 of the pot. If you don't, then bet $4, $9, $9. Whatever you do, make sure you can get it all in without overbetting any street.

Its so easy to see the trap when you're not in it.

Though I think this is the kind of hand where you're just screwed. This happened to me twice last night by THE SAME GUY (what are the odds of the same guy having flopped a set higher then your set twice in an hour or so?)

Both times I paid him off. (He was to my direct left.) I led off my my set, each time he slowplayed and called my bets until the river when he reraised.

I don't know what you can do but pay the person off (unless there's an obvious draw that someone hit).
