Default Worst. Pair. Of Bullets. Ever.

Everyone has aces cracked. Some days it'll happen twice in a single evening. Never before, however, has this ever happned to me.

I'm grinding the 1/2 table in the falls casino. The action is loose, and I'm sitting in wait for a hand to play. My cards are so cold that even 7 2 starts looking playable. I'm watching people swoop up pot after pot. I find my mind wandering and begin to covet their stacks. It's been a half hour, then finally it happens.

I'm in the BB and I'm dealt a pair of aces. I can bearly contain a smile. Now I just need to wait for the two college kids to raise, and the internet player who thinks he's a mini gus hansen to go over the top. My only decision will be to make a raise, or go over the top with an all in to steal the pot.

First three players fold. I don't think I ever saw all of them do that on the same hand. Well, six more vicims to go.

Fold.

Fold.

Fold.

Fold.

Fold.

Fold.

It's up to the small blind. Everyone at the table is deathly quiet. No action pre flop? At this table? Small blind looks over at me.

"care to chop?" he asks.

I bang my head into the table and show my aces. It's unmanly to weep in public, but sometimes you just gotta wonder.

I toss a chip to the dealer and ask her what crime I commited against her in a past life.

I've never had it happen to me at a 1/2 table. The reason I grind that table is the amount of action makes it too profitable for me not play. 1/2 players at casinos, at least in the past couple of years thanks to television, tend to play pretty much anything.

I've had quad aces cracked before. Like everyone I've had trip aces busted by some twit catching runner runner for a straight. these things I can deal with. Happens all the time, and it wouldn't be poker without it.

But no action on a night when the deck runs cold? Grrr.

I tell ya, that almost made me go on tilt. I settled down and made a tidy profit later that evening, but still...

This is why I tell people upfront that I play, not chop.

Well, that and and x0,000 hands of SH play with a lot of blind vs. blind action.

Same sensation came over me when a friend sat to my left on Party. I kept being dealt dominating hands until finally it is AQ Vs QJ. He's a good guy, but is getting frustrated that I had beat him in 5 pots so far. So he makes his stand, and goes after me thinking I'm bluffing, or that I have a lower pocket when a Q falls on the flop.

I just didn't have the heart to take his money after the turn when he realized I had him badly beaten, I checked throu.. no, then I came to my senses and raised him on the river.

I felt bad, but god damnit I am taking him for every chip he is worth, since I know he'll do it to me when he gets a hand.

I then got AQ the very next hand and bluffed him out when the flop was all blanks.

I'm such a jerk.
