Default realization

I used to have a physics teacher in high school who was, shall I say, eccentric (what physics teachers AREN'T?). He had a catch phrase of 'AHA,' and he wanted his students to exclaim it in class if they had a realiztion of sorts about any theories that he was teaching.
Anyways, I've been fighting with my leaks for about a year now, and I posted a 'question' a couple of days ago that I do not need to revisit. Anyway, the realization I made is this: If I play .50/1 or 1/2, and I make 15BB per session (I'd say I play anywhere between 250-500 hands per session on average) every day for ONE year, I'm going to clear a little over $5000 per year (as long as I clear that EVERY day) which to me, is unfathomable. BUT, for a guy who tries to win as much as he can each session, by playing improperly and just thinking about the max he can win each session, this is a pretty big realization. I feel pretty confident in my skills that I feel I can win 15BB per session, which, if I stick to my starting hand requirements, play as well as I can, and actually DO win said 15BB per session, I could be on the road to recovery. Is this unrealistic, or is this an improper way to think? please, dicusss. Thank you!

- Jay

p.s. I'm up about 8BB/180 hands during my current session as of the compostion of this message.

You're not going to win 15BB each session. Some you'll win more, some less. You can play flawless poker and lose 25BB in a session. You can play fish-style poker and win 50BB in a session.

Think of it all as one continuous session.

I would look into bonus whoring...while playing at the micro limits (which is where I am right now) I am able to pull that kind of money in less time with fewer hands played per day...I've literally jumped from bonus to bonus to bonus getting expected 30bb per bonus plus the 100-200bb of actual bonus puts it way over the top. Plus I whored 4 casinos in 1 day last year for a total gain of about $800...not bad for a day of work and not too much risk

Yobz,

I'd love it if you private messaged me, emailed me, or explained further how to do this. I've always profited pretty well from it on party, but I don't really know how to do it on other sites. Help? Thanks!

p.s. 20BB/227 hands during current session as of this message.

I believe winning players win because their upswings are larger and more frequent than their downswings. They definitely do not win because they are able to win (let alone win X amount) every session, or every day, or even every month.

You believe you can win 15BB per session, and you're wrong, period. You will have losing sessions, period.

Ok, let me rephrase...how about AVERAGE 15BB per session. Too high? If we want to get more realistic, can we say 5BB per session on average? Is that truly unattainable? That, in and of itself, is about $1800 per year. I understand I'm going to lose sessions, but let's talk about average. I know everyone mentions the 1BB/100 hands as a primer, but I want to take it further. Please, discuss.

p.s. up 20BB/249 hands as of the composition of this message.

Something you need to understand is that sessions are meaningless taken alone. It's all one session. Just because you stop counting your money when you arbitrarily leave a table and start again when you arbitrarily sit down, doesn't change the game, or what your longterm results will be. People here refer to BB/100 hands because it is a good standard of measure for looking at winning over the long run. But it is only a crutch to focus on your BB/100, BB/session, BB/ anything but lifetime as these numbers will rise as a result of improving your decision making.

The very fact that you are posting your current BB won for this session shows you have a long way to go towards understanding this game. Focus on improving your skill, not on $$ and I promise they will both get better in time.

If your average session is 375 hands (you said 250-500), you're looking at 4bb/100 to earn $15/session. Not unattainable, but I don't think many people can sustain that in the long run. If you bump your average session to 600 hands, you could easily win $15/session (2.5bb/100) over the long run at .5/1 if you're very committed to improving your game.

But you're 100% spot on about being able to earn a decent chunk of change grinding it out at the higher micro limits. Work to improve your game and the money will come. Tracking results 500 hands at a time is counterproductive.
