Default How long until hand rankings are not in EVERY tv poker show?

Obviously in most sports they don't take 5 minutes out of the game to explain it. Everyone knows what a first down is, etc.

In what year do you expect poker shows to skip the "hand rank / blind explanation" segment?

It is going to happen eventually... will it be 2007 or 20017?

My guess is 2010. 5 more years of solid poker programming and these things will no longer be part of the broadcasts as they will be assumed they're already known.

I was thinking the EXACT same thing. I think we (the general poker viewing public) have figured out the basic rule to No Limit Hold'em because EVERY show shows them over and over.

In a football telecast the announcers dont spend a couple minutes explaining the rules to the audience. SO why must poker shows.

Never.

They still (briefly) explain the rules on every episode of Who Wants to be a Millionaire, right?

They will always explain them because you aren't born with the knowledge of winning poker hands.

So you're saying that if the amount of coverage Poker gets on TV continues forever... even in 50 years, they're still going to sit there and explain what a "blind" is?

I think you're wrong.

I think it will be around for a very very long time (forever is such a strong word).

I'm sure the editors like it too, saves them a few minutes of work each episode.

Did they ever explain this to viewers when football was first broadcast? Perhaps the people who produce football programming feel it unnecessary to explain everything, but DO feel the need to explain hand rankings.

Thanks for your input. I will store this information in my manual and will congratulate you on the day that hand rankings are fully understood by everyone in the world.
