AK on a paired board
only been around a couple of orbits, but cutoff seems pretty solid, hasn't really done anything out of line. couple questions:
should i raise this preflop? how are my bet sizes? and what about the river play? Re: AK on a paired board
I would have reraised preflop but if you feel you can trap a weak ace or weak king then call is fine assuming you feel that BB won't come along with you for 1 bb more.
I like the post flop play. |

Re: AK on a paired board
Reraise preflop, fold if reraised (since you almost always in my exprecience will be up against AA or KK). Postflop play is good I think. You have to call that small bet on the river even though you are probably beat. Against a bad player (who might actually have KQ or even KJ) the call will show profit.

Re: AK on a paired board
Really? I don't see how he could be ahead. Perhaps you need to take another look at the board. Any hand with an 8,KJ,QT, even K9(though this is improbable) is ahead. All the hero has is TPTK, not even close to the nuts. Given the action on each street(especially 5th) it is almost certain that TPTK is not enough. JMO

I might even check/call the turn and river against a decent player.

Re: AK on a paired board
I'd say a weak King hand or maybe even an underpair is a likely holding for Villain. I'd say you're ahead more than 50% of the time. I don't see Villain making a raise with a hand that contains an 8 other than A8s, since he can't expect a min-raise to make people fold. I think you're up against QQ.

Re: AK on a paired board
I would raise with a very wide range of hands in that spot, A8 K-J8s 89s 78s are some hands that I would be very likely to raise in that situation. Though I think it is more likely to be KJ and he got lucky and outdrew the hero. It is almost certainly not QQ or any other underpair, who would call all the way down and then make a weak bet that is begging for a call with an overcard and a pair showing? His river bet is telling you he can beat a pair of K's. JMO

Re: AK on a paired board
Hero checked the river after betting weak on all streets, thus inducing a bluff.
