Default Bush\'s definition of Freedom and Liberty

From the Associated PressFargo, ND)

"City Commissioner Linda Coates says she was shocked to learn she and her husband were among more than 40 [Fargo] area residents on a list of people barred from attending President Bush's speech here Thursday.
The list was supplied to workers at the two Fargo distribution sites, along with tickets and other forms citizens were asked to fill out, The Forum reported.

The list includes critics of Bush or the war in Iraq. It includes two high school students, a librarian, a deputy Democratic campaign manager and a number of university professors [...]

Also on the list was James Holm, the producer of "The Ed Schultz Show," and Berrett Gall, the former deputy campaign manager for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Joe Satrom. Holm, a staunch Democrat, said he felt honored.

The Forum said many on the list are current or former members of the Fargo-Moorhead Democracy for America Meetup Group, a local group working for "socially progressive" candidates."

So, what were they barred for? Fears that they would be disruptive? Are they perhaps thought to support terrorist groups...or what, exactly?

The way i see it, it's bush's party, and he may invite whomever he wants.

I am far more concereded with, for example, the 'free speech zones' that protesters now have to stay in when protesting, and the FCC's assult on speach.

read the last graph of the story. None of the people on the list were under investigation by anyone. This was simply another form of the 'bubble' they use to protect the little crackhead from any dissent.

Late word from Fargo is that the county commissioner decided to go anyway, was taken aside by a staffer (unclear as to a local or WH staffer) and told the list was "a mistake by an overzealous staffer". She attended the rest of the event without incident.

Unfortunately, its not Bush's party. He is a public official, spending tax dollars. Its antithetical to everything this country stands for to exclude citizens from these events. Especially when that exclusion is based on party affiliation.

MtSmalls,

I did read the last paragraph you copied as an excerpt. It does not say why they were barred, though; nor does it assert that they were not under investigation.

Just trying to get to the bottom of this, you know? You might be right but I don't like jumping to hasty conclusions.

Default Getting Your Facts Straight

Who barred them, anyway, MtSmalls?

Not Bush or his staff; not the Secret Service; not the Fargo police, either. Yet your post title suggests the opposite.

Fargo city commissioner gets apology for 'no admittance' list

Associated Press

FARGO, N.D. - City Commissioner Linda Coates says she was shocked to learn she and her husband were among more than 40 area residents on a list of people barred from attending President Bush's speech here Thursday. She got in, anyway, and said she got an apology for what was described as the work of an overzealous staffer.

Fargo police said the "no admittance" list was not from police or the Secret Service, but was created by a local volunteer involved in the ticket distribution. White House spokesman Jim Morrell and Don Larson, a spokesman for Gov. John Hoeven's office, said they knew nothing about it.

The list included two high school students, a librarian, a deputy Democratic campaign manager and a number of university professors, The Forum reported Thursday. The newspaper said many of the names on the list are current or former members of the Fargo-Moorhead Democracy for America Meetup Group, a local group working for "socially progressive" candidates.

Coates said she originally had not planned to attend the president's speech, but got a last-minute ticket Wednesday night from Fargo Mayor Bruce Furness, who offered tickets to all city commissioners.

She said a "tall staffer," whom she did not know came up to her and apologized as she was entering the Bison Sports Arena to hear the president speak. Some protesters were chanting 'Go, Linda, Go!' she said.

"The White House had said it (the list) was apparently the work of an overzealous staffer," Coates said.

Coates, whose husband, Mike, also was on the list, said earlier she had no idea why her name would be among those barred from the speech, though she has been outspoken in her political beliefs.

"I thought that was democracy," she said.

Other names on the list were James Holm, the producer of "The Ed Schultz Show," and Berrett Gall, the former deputy campaign manager for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Joe Satrom. Holm, a staunch Democrat, said he felt honored.

"Neither the Fargo Police Department nor the United States Secret Service had anything to do with creating or using this list. Neither agency bars entry to such an event based on political affiliation," the Fargo police statement said."

MMMM

you'll note that I put just those facts in an earlier post. If you believe for a second that this list, which by everyone's admission did exist, was made entirely by one local staffer, keep drinking the kool-aid by all means.

As to the last statement from the Fargo police department, this is a categorical lie. During the election the USSS did exactly that, pulling people wearing Kerry paraphenalia from Bush visits and denying them entry. I know this as I had a long discussion with my brother, who is a new agent in the Dallas office and traveled extensively with the campaign.
