Craps Question

I have had marginal success lately betting the don't pass line and then placing odds when a 4 or 10 is rolled on the come out. If a 6 or 8 is rolled I then take the bet and place it on the pass line. If a 5 or 9 is rolled I then leave the money on the don't pass line with no odds. How bad is this strategy and does anyone have any other suggestions?
