Planning on going out with some friends in March to this casino to play in the tournaments and ring games.
Any reviews/suggestions? Thanks |

Re: peppermill casino in Reno
#1 Their tournie structure sucks, but that is pretty much the same with all small buy in tournies.
#2 I think you and your friends should really try to make it to the downtown Reno area for ring games. Notably the El Dorado and Circus Circus. I enjoyed those ring games far more than the ones at Peppermill. |

The Hilton has a lot of big tourneys in March. Check out their web site for a complete list.

Re: peppermill casino in Reno
i played in one of the last set of tourneys at the peppermill. i think they were about 225$ buy-ins with around 200 people in each.
the tourney sucked a little at first because there were more people than they expected. about 30 of us had to go play downstairs in this dark-assed small poker room next to a bar. upstairs where the main tourney was going wasnt too bad. after 30 people busted out, they moved us back upstairs. from then on, it was fine and, in my opinion, pretty well run. the players were typical 225$ buy-in players. a lot of schmucks busting out in the first hour, then it settles down to where there are some decent players playing solid poker. the peppermill is not on the reno "strip". its maybe 5 miles away. overall, the casino portion looked pretty nice and i would definitely recommend the tourneys there. however, it might not be a bad idea to stay on the strip (silver legacy has decent rooms and is centrally located), especially if you're looking for soft ring games during the day or late late at night. oh, and if you go, you have to check out circus circus' midnight-time ring games. full or great trashy drunks splashing checks all over the joint. best of luck! |

Re: peppermill casino in Reno
I stayed/played at the Peppermill on a Thurs. night in early Jan before heading to Tahoe. Played in a $4/8 full kill game from 11pm-5am and won about $300-350 (lost track from all the Patron tequila they made me drink). This was right after the weekly $100 NL tourney ended, which I didn't play in. The table was at least half full of locals at all times but as expected the play was way too loose and bad with occassional bouts of contagious over-aggression preflop. Capping with robust holdings like KTo, A6s, and 22 was not uncommon. The poor playing locals liked to make fun of us tight tourists even though we were taking all their money. They also had a couple lower limit tables and a $20/40 game going until 3am that a friend of mine ($30/60 LA player) played in with WPT final table dude Tony (Le?) from I think one of the Reno Hilton episodes.
Overall the rooms, casino and restaurants were pretty nice (we even had ok sushi at Oceano). I would definitely stay there again but like others have said, it's a cab ride to anywhere else except maybe Atlantis. -Jeff |
