EPT: Greg Raymers comments to danish newspaper
I thought I would share this with you. So the european poker tour, visited Denmark, and some big stars were in Copenhagen. Thanks for coming, I understand that some found the casino shitty, personally living right next to the casino I prefer going to Malmö, Sweden when playing poker at a casino.
Well, Danish Newspaper Berlingske Tidende, had a brief interview with Greg Raymer, asking to coment on his quick exit. I have tried my best to translate it from danish to english, I'm sorry if the translation isn't exactly pro. --------- It came to a quick exit for the world champion Greg Raymer, nonetheless the stout american could see the grotesque in the situation of being eliminated by an unknown onlinequalifier. "The guy who eliminated me, looked spot on like the cartoon figure Peter Pan. I had to ask him if he was sure he was old enough to enter a casino." grumbled Raymer rather obstinated, and had soon his eyes turned towards the next flight to Connecticut. ----------------------------- |

Re: EPT: Greg Raymers comments to danish newspaper
Raymer may have been a great poster two years ago but since he had his flike win he's been nothing but needlessly arrogant and condescending.
This is a great example. He insults this other guy for no reason. Raymer is a poor sport and a sore loser. MM and Varkony were better "champions" than this, uh, "stout American". I can't wait to see him get bounced at the Rio in a few months. I predict he'll soon be selling stakes in future tourneys like Boyd is doing now. Raymer, your fifteen minutes of fame are almost over. And I'll say again, you over dramatized your Bellagio mugging to increase your attention. I've been mugged and it's no fun, but I've seen teenagers get attention in better ways than you. |

Note that this is being translated twice, unless Raymer speaks Danish. I suspect something's been lost in translation.

Re: EPT: Greg Raymers comments to danish newspaper
It's amazing how relatively innocent comments can seem like words of bitter bile when you don't like somone.
Greg's comments seem pretty innoccous to me - relatively amusing really - and much less angry than most post-exit interviews I've seen. Bit of a non-story really.... "Ex-world champ a bit miffed at early exit" is hardly headline stuff. ZB |

Re: EPT: Greg Raymers comments to danish newspaper
Well, I'm not sure where the "grumble" and "obstinate" part came in, as I certainly didn't feel any anger or other harsh feelings towards the young guy who crippled my stack. I just pointed out to the reporter that poker is a rapidly growing game, especially amongst young players. In fact, I stated, the guy who all but knocked me out of the tournament is so young, and so young-looking, he looks like Peter Pan, the perpetual 12-yo. The guy is probably no more than 20, but he does look very young, and does look a lot like the young actor who played Peter Pan in some recent movie I remember seeing advertised on TV a year or 2 ago.
So, the quote is correct as to the facts. I just don't understand why the reporter would've put any descriptive terms about me that were negative, as I didn't feel I was expressing any negativity in the interview. It could be he misinterpreted my words and feelings, or it could be that in a couple of translations, the words have been altered beyond their original meaning. And I had decided to fly home early, so maybe that's where he got his interpretation of my mindset from. I've been out of the country a week, have been traveling a lot, and will be traveling a lot more in the future. Once I was done with what I had to do there, I wanted to get home to my family. Maybe my tiredness and desire to get home came across as bitterness or something to him. Oh well. I can only control what I do. I can't control how others perceive it. Just a harmless quote being taken out of context.

Re: EPT: Greg Raymers comments to danish newspaper
It's very hip in Europe to be Anti-American these days. If they want Greg to play the role of grumpy-American-bounced-by-young-Euro guy, not much you can do. Just imagine how Matusow and Arieh would have been portrayed by Dane reporters...
