Pocket 10s in BB, 1st level of 10+1 Party
So first level of a 10+1 SNG ... how do you play TT?? My general line with a hand like this is that this early you'll be called by Ax, Kx that make it really susceptible to overcards and therefore try to play it for set value...but I am not confident that this is the best approach. Comments? I think a raise is in order PF, but even then on this board what is the move. Fourth hand in so no real reads...

Stick with the plan. No set, No bet. Button probably has a Q or maybe even someone else did and if not they will mostly call the 50 and you will be up against an A, K and a J.
Only other choice is to raise. 2 outs (and runner runner) is nothing to draw for. |

Re: Pocket 10s in BB, 1st level of 10+1 Party
Against 5 limpers, with a premium hand like the TT, I would raise to around 150 in the BB preflop. You will likely not be called and if so, you are heads up and will better be able to define your hand.

check from the bb, and fold on the flop.

Re: Pocket 10s in BB, 1st level of 10+1 Party
what will do if you are called and the flop comes 1 overcard and you have to act first?
2 overcards? 3 overcards? |

Re: Pocket 10s in BB, 1st level of 10+1 Party
Either bet the flop or check/fold. Once you check here, you have to fold to the bet. You're in no position for a check/raise or a check/call.
I don't think a PFR would be very wrong, but you're out of position against a large, loose field, so checking is probably the better play. |

What do you do with other premium hands like AJs and KQo? Lori |

But it brings up an opportunity to comment on the "defining your hand" concept. You don't need to pay for information. Opponents will give it to you for free. Also, you don't need to pay for information about your own hand. You get to see it... which is an advantage you have over your opponents with regard to your own hole cards. Making a bet to define your hand is like paying somebody at the fair to guess your weight. You already know how much you weigh, so what's the point? When terms like "betting for information" are used in poker books, what the author is actually doing is describing a value bet in different terms. You are actually betting because you rate to be ahead; and therefore, rate to be +EV if called. If you get raised, you rate to be behind, and will be -EV if you call. This is just a value bet. If you want to call it "betting for information," I suppose that's fine, but it leads to a misinterpretation of what's actually going on, I think. Irieguy |

Out of all the pf limpers, maybe one or two have the goods. Slimming down the field would be to your advantage. Then when the over comes on the flop you can bet out and get the info that you need to make the correct decision. Pulp |
