what is a tec?

i was in annie duke room @ ub. and an observer comes in and asks if anyone wants to buy a "tec" up to seven. one guy says he is interested and another guy asks the interested party if he even knows what a tec is. and goes on to say that the observer is the scum of the earth and the interested party is foolish. so what the heck were they talking about? i checked the search and got topics with the subject technical or protect hands. i figured if anyone would know you guys would.

in most cases it is good for a 100+9 tourny.

It is good for $100 dollars towards entry into an MTT. The +9 has to be covered from cash, they have SnGs and rebuy MTTs that pay them out.

Yeah, I fell for that one hook line and sinker. Yeah, I'm incredibly dumb. I decided it was a +EV move to trust this guy and I was wrong...

Guy named AAKKQQAAKKQQ was advertising 5 TEC's for $275. He managed to convince me to pay $120 up front on PS, since my UB account wasn't enabled for transfer. Of course, I never heard from him again.

Guess I learned my lesson. Flames, insults, etc. to /dev/null.

Just curious, why is that a bad deal? Your getting 500 dollars worth of buyin for 120? What am I missing?

I sent him the $120 on PokerStars in expectations that he would then give me 5 TEC's, and I would then send him the remaining $155.

What actually happened was that I sent him the $120 and then he disappeared.

Neither PS or UB were willing to help, but I don't blame them. Probably one of the stupidist things that I have ever done.
