Default AQo

This hand is from SSH river play hand quizzes. Why does hero bet the flop?

Hero has A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Preflop: EP limps, Hero raises, 2 Coldcalls and the limper calls. 4 to the flop (9.5 sb)

Flop: K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
Limper checks, Hero bets.

Default Re: AQo

1) Because you opponents are loose, and play badly. You probably had the best hand pre-flop.

2) The flop is very ragged, and it is unlikely it has hit anyone. There are no legitimate draws on the board. By raising early pre-flop, you are "telling" your opponents you have AA, KK, QQ or AK. You hope your opponents fold. They all won't fold, but you can likely get heads up. You do have an overcard and a backdoor straight draw (admittedly not that strong, since you need runner-runner) NOTE: many time cold calling opponents are holding mid to low pocket pairs. This is not a good flop for them.

3) Most important: the pot is big. You have a good enough hand to try and win it, especially with the early position limper limping pre-flop, then checking to you on the flop.
