Default what do you do during long losing streaks?

when losing streaks start to go for days, and losses keep mounting, i feel i have a tough time coping during those stretches.

I get somewhat irritated, and it reflects in my mood around the house and family. I dont turn into an ass...but i am just not my usual upbeat optimistic self. I get frustrated and it affects my sleep at night, replaying key hands in my head, thus compounding the problem because i usually have a headache the next morning from lack of sleep.

And i know a couple losing days here and there, bad beat barrages etc...all part of game, but when it gets to be almost a week straight, it starts to affect other things besides poker.

Hey paul, This happens to me also. I am the biggest sore loser in the world. I don't know why, but I am. When I'm on a long losing streak I get moody also. I suppose taking a long break would work best but I'm not a quitter. So I play 10+1 SnG's like a maniac. Bluff alot push people around when it gets short handed etc.

Good Luck,
J72

I play GTA San Andreas it keeps my mind off poker and there is nothing like handing out a good old fashioned beat down to relieve some stress

Paul,
I'm going through this right now myself. You have to try and not let it affect your mood but sometimes it's hard. Especially when you keep getting sucked out hand after hand and it seems the flop misses you everytime.

The thing that usually helps me is coming to this forum and reading posts from other people about these things. I think I need this because sometimes I feel like the biggest loser myself. Another thing that helps me is going to the gym and letting out some of my frustration heh. It can be tough but I just keep thinking to myself that the bad beats and suckouts will soon end.

You aren't alone, so just keep a positive attitude and you'll be fine

A bad week? Ha! I Get pissed after 1 bad session. When I have a bad session I start saying to myself, "Thats it! No more poker! Time to go on a killing spree" And then I take a few days off and I remember that I have to look at the bigger picture. I am a winner at poker it is profitable for me to continue to play.

Cheers,
Pots

thanks,

its been really tough but it seems like these past 4 weeks have been different, much worse and tougher to swallow than previous down streaks.

I mean i just sat down tonite after reading some of these posts with a fresh attitude and mental approach to my game..

next thing i know im stuck 2G at 10/20 short ring games in an hour, and i bust out of 2 $200 STT, both times i get AA during first level and lose to 88 and AK.

my hands never seem to hold up past the river
..and yet my draws never complete.

I seem to pick the easiest games with the worst fish and calling stations, yet i seem to be the one supplying them with $$$ to redistribute to others at table.

I want to fold hand but get free card which completes my gutshot,or draw, only to payoff someone slowplaying nuts.

i wait for an hour or two to finally scoop a big pot, only to give it away very next hand.

just seems everthing is going against you, and i just cant break out of shell.

just biding my time....

take a vacation for a few days if you can afford it, if not find something else to do for a few days. when you come back you will feel refreshed.

Some of the better advice I've seen. Makes me wish I still had my boxing gym membership

I've been going through this the past couple days. I mopped up the Excalibur's room's 1/3 for the past week coming home with a bit of a profit, dropped a chunk of it last night. Decided to hit up the 3/6 at the Mirage thinking "Maybe with some better opponants I'll do a little bit better and win back what I lost." Within a half hour I made up for my losses for the previous day. Didn't want to bail after such a short session though, and the cold cards nickle and dimed me back down to where I started, and minus another $40. Decided to see if I could crack that $40 back out of the Excalibur (It was a hell of a lot easier than usual playing that room after the Mirage) but I let myself get trapped with second best hand a couple times, and now I'm even deeper.

I think my solution is going to be, since this is just a (normally profitable enough that I've just been spending profits for the past two weeks and not even needing to use my own money.) hobby, I'm going to dip into my own pocket and hit up a bar and relax with some buddies. Take a week or so off of the poker rooms, and hit 'em up again after some time off and see what happens. And maybe try and find another decent room to play in for a while once I do come back.
